I got a kiosk!

So I was working today (I own a Fedex Ground route), and while doing my stops, I drove past a house out in the country that made me do a double take.  Out on this house's front porch was a big old N64 kiosk!  I've never found anything remotely this cool out in the wild, so I pulled off and figured it couldn't hurt to knock on the door and see what the situation with it was.  After all, it was out on the porch and obviously not being used or cared for.

So I knock on the door and speak to the owner of the house.  I told him I collect old Nintendo stuff, and noticed the kiosk on his porch.  I asked him where he got it from, and he said his brother worked in a store back in the '90s, and he got it from him.  I asked if he was using it, or possibly interested in selling it.  He goes, "Tell you what, I'll give it to you for what I paid for it."

"How much is that?" I asked.  "Fifty bucks," he replied.  Sounded good to me!  I went in the truck to get my wallet, and found that I only had a hundred and a couple singles.  I gave him the hundred and told him that if he didn't have change I'd understand, it was still a good deal to me.  He told me that he didn't have change on him, but if I could come back later that day he'd give it to me.  So I loaded the kiosk into my truck (moving some packages to make room), and off I went.  It comes in two pieces, and damn is it heavy!  It caught me by surprise.  I went back later on and he had the $50 ready and waiting.  It couldn't have gone smoother!

I stopped at my apartment on the way back, and lugged the freaking thing up to my third floor apartment.  That was fun.  I almost killed myself, but I managed not to ruin the walls or anything, and got it set up in our spare bedroom.  We're already running out of space here, and my wife and I are hoping to get a house later this year, but I knew she would want to kill me for bringing this home.  Luckily she was relatively OK with it.

To be honest, I didn't expect it to work right away.  I thought it would need some work because God knows how long it was sitting on this guy's porch, and the metal portions of it show some rust, plus I had to clean it up pretty good with paper towels just to get the dirt and grime off.  I plugged it in, though, and lo and behold, it booted right up.  It had Mario Kart all hooked up and ready to play, so I played a couple of time trials to test it out.  Everything works great, and it has the official monitor and everything.  It's certainly not in mint shape, but for $50, I'm thrilled.  Check it out!

  • Beautiful!
  • Dayummmmmnnnnnn!!!! What an awesome freaking find and obviously a super cool seller. What a great steal, I mean it even came with a $20 game!!! Enjoy it looks to be in great shape .
  • DAMN!!! I'll double that investment haha!!

    Killer find man!!

I do believe this belongs in the "finders Keepers" thread though

  • That's pretty awesome, and for a great deal. I never see kiosks around my parts

  • It actually had Perfect Dark and Pokemon Snap with it, as well.

And damn it, how did I not think of Finders Keepers haha. If a mod could move it, that would be great.
  • Awesome find man! Bah, this is one kiosk I just can't find locally! :-) Congrats!
  • I have that same one, but without that mario party piece, that has got to be rare. I have seen a few of these here on Nintendoage, and this is the first to have a display like that on the TV. I paid $350 for mine, plus gas to my friend. Nice deal man!
  • OMG! now thats a great story and find!! Reminds me of my vectrex find, but that N64 kiosk is WAY cooler, nice find.. sick
  • Wow thats amazing, right off the porch
  • So JELLY! Get this man his award!
  • Nice find. Shame the Mario Party 3 display is sunfaded.
  • Started to read and seen the very top half of the kiosk. Got to the ponit in the story where you lugged it up 3 stories and my jaw dropped a bit. After viewing the picture realized it was a different model then my n64 kiosk. This was a later released floor model believe and no to common. Mine is a bit larger and has the 100lb base plate which is huge. So when you said you got it up to your 3rd story appartment by yourself I was shocked. Had been thinking it was the system like mine. Sweet deal on the setup and it's an awesome find.
  • Right off the porch! Awesome man, looks great!
  • This keeps me motivated to keep searching for this stuff!!

    Congrats on the find!!
  • What I wouldn't give for that thing. That's the number one kiosk on my lost. Second place is snap station which I have. God jealousy is a horrible beast
  • Damn I've got a bunch of kiosks but the N64 hasn't been one I've found even outside of my area yet.
  • Thanks guys! It's definitely too bad the Mario Party signage is so faded- I have to figure out if I want to keep it on, take it off, or maybe see if I can find something to replace it. As for the kiosk itself, it was heavy as all hell. I don't know the exact weight, but I'm very proud of myself for making it upstairs with it. Being a Fedex man has definitely paid dividends in regards to getting giant awkward stuff into tough places.
  • Sweet terrence. Thats a badass random find. Congrats on it.
  • that thing is awesome. i hope you have a girlfriend or wife. i'm sure they'll love it just as much as you.

ill play you a poker game for it
  • that's so cool
  • I got married last July, and I knew she would want to kill me for bringing it home, but I had to do it! She wasn't exactly thrilled, but she's really cool with me and my gaming stuff. My collection is on display in our living room. I doubt many women would be cool with that!
  • Wow, that thing is super sexy - as is the baseball memorabilia on your wall!
  • Thanks, I've got one wall for each of my teams. A New York Mets wall, a UNC basketball wall, a Florida Gators football wall, and a Chicago Bears wall. What you see there is a signed shot of Mookie Wilson and Bill Buckner when the ball went through his legs in the '86 World Series. It's signed by Mookie and Buckner. My best friend got it for me about eight years ago.
  • pst.. A n64 Kiosk doesn't fit into a sports room... You should just send it this way

Goodness thats pretty man!! congrats again
  • Awesome! love in store displays, still looking for my first!!
