I think SCAT is the one where you start with two gradius-style options, and have them all game. One button makes them rotate around you or stop in position. The other shoots. Good game.
Others I recall liking off top of head: Legendary Wings and Abadox are both fine if you want a sidescroll shmup. Legendary Wings is cool because the whole game pretty much plays like the last level of Kid Icarus. But if you die late and lose your powerups you may as well just start over. Abadox has cool graphics that are kind of a prequel to the bio-mech themes in the R-Type series.
I have section Z but I dont have the patience to find a map online and follow it you know. Thanks for your guys help. I will have to chek some of these games out. I usually check them out on facebook.
^ actually there's a cheat that makes it better though, if you use the konami code substituting the L/R top buttons for the d-pad left/right, you get maxed out stuff and just need to power up your speed. Best to do it with a pod or two floating on the screen so you can speed up to level 3 right away.
You get one of these full-charges per level you've started, and they accumulate. After that, does nothing.
And don't bother burning them up on the speed-maze level. It just sucks nuts, no way around it.

Dan - Abadox has that same problem (as Gradius and Legendary Wings)...once you die, might as well reset the game.
Star Soldier isn't too bad, and Zanac is really fun.
