Homepage suggestion

I don't know if this has ever been considered before, but the NA homepage is actually different from the forum. For me, when I visit the site, I usually hit that page first since it's easier to type that url in then click 'FORUM' rather than type the extra characters entered for the direct link to the forum. The main page is updated very rarely and I was thinking about how many people like myself must also visit that page before the forum, especially first time visitors.

Perhaps if that page was more active in some way... not take away what's there, but add to it with more updates and activity to present a rapidly evolving and updated site. Maybe a list of the 10 most recent or active threads? A list of current events to the site such as "Today's b-days" or "This week's new members" or "The most popular topics of the moment". I make this suggestion because this is a very popular website so the front page should be the most important from a design standpoint. I have more ideas I'd love to share in the future, but this one has been on my mind for a while now.

I love this website and I want to help, which I am doing what's available to me at this time: I am now writing for the newsletter, I am hoping to make a larger donation, and I am trying to be active in the community - NA auctions and fun topics for discussion. By all means, my suggestion is just a suggestion and absolutely not a criticism of the website itself.

Thanks for reading!!

John

  • Plans for a new homepage layout are in the works.

Dain's been hard at work prepping for another NintendoAge + sister sites update.

The home page is definitely on the radar.

Keep the ideas coming, we're always open for new ideas.
  • Can we get rid of the solomons key dude in the corner or fix it to the background not as a link?

I end up clicking on it by accident because on smart phones resizing the screen is a pain and the logo seems to cover the screen.
  • You always have the option to remove him, in your NA profile.

You can also use mobile.nintendoage.com and there is no Nindo there.

HMM did you read my post above?

You guys already have the option to remove him, but noone ever takes the time to look into it, instead they just complain about him.
  • Everyone knows it's cool to complain about the NA dude : )

Paul, could you share what you guys are doing to the homepage exactly?

    Nope, cause I don't know.

I'm not the programmer/developer writing the code, so I have no idea.

I'm not here to say what is or isn't being done, just that changes are coming and to ask for ideas.

  • Just had an idea, a "game of the week/month" section where we would highlight awesome games that people should try out. Could be either old or new. Section would have a couple sentences about the game, maybe some codes, screen shots. Kind of like the database game pages, only for the homepage
  • So right now, I'm in the process of re-doing the home page. We've got some scoring stuff there, a "quick" game search, and a few other ideas floating around. I agree the home page is terrible, and I wish it would just go away!
