Comments

  • I have a few black box games cib for sale,

    Gumshoe

    Tennis

and some others, not sure. let me know if you're interested.

  • I'm still looking for some more Black Box games. Anyone can please let me know.
  • what's the going prices for NES complete Black Boxed games these days? Mint or VG.
  • It really depends on which title you're looking for. Box condition is still very determinant on value.

This is very true.  Box condition can make the difference between a $75 copy of DK Jr. Math and a $200 copy.  And since the boxes seem to be particularly condition-sensitive...if you don't absolutely have to have them in mint condition, you could save quite a few bucks (well...except for Stack-Up and big-box Gyromite...those will still run you quite a bit even if the box is trashed).
  • I figured as much image I haven't been able to find a reliable price guide for boxed NES black boxes. The listings in Video Game Collector Magazine seem to be very undercut. They had many complete black boxed games listed for under $10 ea and I know they are worth far more than that. I paid $275 for my mint/original cellophane covered, but opened Stack-Up and I'm pretty sure it's held it's value.

I am on the fence with selling my complete black box collection. I always swore it would be the last thing I'd ever sell, but my situation has changed. I have been out of work for 10 years do to a back injury and I may need the money some day. I always rely on you guys for honest answers so please give me your thoughts on this.

I have all 30 BB NES games complete with box, cart, sleeve, styro, baggy. Most are VG, some are mint. The only defect I can think of is with 10-yard fight. It has a ripped top flap. I guess I was excited about that one as a kid image Anyway, what do you guys think? Would it be best to sell all in a complete lot or individually? Any signs that collection prices are going up or down? I've had a few offers on a few of these, Stack-Up, DKJR, but I hate the thought of selling only a couple almost as much as the whole set. It took me nearly 20 years to get my collection up this standard so I am just in the thinking stage right now. Any input would be appreciated and please don't take it the wrong way if I reject any offers.

Derek1112: I didn't mean to take over your post either. image I sometimes ramble a bit...
  • Matt! haha you KNOW i am interested. Im not sure what my highest offer has been.. but i would do very bad things to get you to sell these to me...as a lot or broke up. Please please please please say your gonna. <-- sorry to make light of your situation, which truly does suck...

BTW if you do sell.. I call dibs on the DK math. I'll pretty much pay what ever. image
  • Sell those individually for maximum potential..

If you sell them, please post on NA!!!! Love me some black box games, do they all have intact hangtabs?
  • Matt, if those look as nice all around as they do in the one pic you would get over a $1,000 for them easy. Hell I paid Parpunk, what $600-700 worked out to something like that in a lot purchase, for his Perfect Mint DK MATH alone. So depending on how nice they are if you keep them, which I would recommend SORRY GUYS, they are going to do nothing but go up. But if you need to sell the BB market is EXTREMELY HOT right now. And the nicer the condition the higher the price, obvioulsy, but with these that is REALLY true!
  • Wow are those fantastic looking. And damn you Ray for calling dibs on the DK Jr. Math image Yeah, if you are planning on selling them, now is probably as good as its going to get for black box games. Seems to be tons of people willing to pay good money for minty copies. I know I'm one of them. And I call dibs on pretty much everything but the Stack-Up image

If you do sell them, you should do it auction style here on NA. Avoid the ebay fees, and keep them within the community! Otherwise, they'll end up in the hands of some douche trying to reconnect with his retro-loving emo kid, who won't appreciate what he's really got there and the minty games will just get trashed.
  • Hehe yah I've been trying to get Spoonman's DK math, about as long as Erik has had Marks. Gah, I should have never passed on that one! image

Altough, I totally agree with Erik that these things will probably hold there value, and even go up slightly.. i just dont see how they can get much more expensive. Knock on wood.

I know that a lot very similar to this (Over a year ago now) went for just a little over 1k and had alot of the very same games Dk Math, Jr, ect but did not include the Stack up. They were PERFECT condition though.

  • Yeah, probably a third of those are on my most wanted list. Urban Champion, Gumshoe, Mario Bros, SMB, all the DK's, Wild Gunman, Clu Clu Land, and Wrecking Crew. Dunno if I could afford anything more than the MB or SMB right now, though, lol. Too much spent elsewhere.
  • Shouldn't I get first dibs since this is my post. If these games are up for grabs.
  • Black Box games are an universal concern among collectors.

Haha i highly doubt that "dibs" are up for grabs anyhow... but just for the heck of it, HELL NO image
  • Lol, yeah. It doesn't exactly work like that; not like he was really offering them up anyways. If he does, I'm sure he'll make his own post and list them there.
  • Yea. It's an hell of a collection there. If it was up for grabs I would lose out very fast anyways.
  • Hey guys.. You know I would offer them here before posting to eBay. You have my word on that. As for selling though to be honest I am not at that point yet. If the time comes I will make a new post in the buy/sell area and you can all call dibs image

I appreciate all the offers and some are pretty temping, but I am going to keep them a little longer. So you think I should sell them individually though? I just have a feeling I would sell all the rare games and be stuck with SMB/Duck Hunt/Gyromite hehe..

Also, as I told Frisbee a while ago I do have a few extra complete boxed NES games (sorry none of them are DK Jr Math). I have to get motivated and go through my boxes. I recently moved everything out of my storage unit and my room is so packed I have to move part of it to the kitchen just to walk in. Every time I get closer to getting to my dupes it gets blocked by more stuff image

I will list those as soon as I can. I don't get around as well as I used to so I will do my best to get to it. Off hand I know I have these:

Pinball, Duck Hunt, Golf, Gyromite, Kung Fu, Mach Rider, Pro Wrestling, Wild Gunman, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, To the Earth, Dr Mario

Blades of Steel boxed/complete Konami Classic Series

As soon as I can verify condition and take some pictures I will get them listed on here.

    Thanks guys!
  • I do know I would like Wild Gunman and Tysons Punch out for sure. If and when you get a chance send me a pm when ready to let go
  • Understandable about having a hard time letting those puppies go! They look to be in really nice condition.

I absolutely agree that splitting them up is the way to go. I could see some "auctions" of your stuff going stupid high. And i wouldn't worry about being stuck with anything.. Mint Black box games ALWAYS sell, I will personally guarantee that you would get a good price on each of them, cause if they are MINT i will throw down some decent cash on every single one just to horde the damn things. (personally I still need SMB, and Duck Hunt 9/10+ image)

I'm sure you will, but when you do/if you do sell Please don't forget me. image

@Derrick - haha thanks for getting spoonman to pull out his tote picture.
  • Had no intentions of making him pull out the pics, but I'm also glad he did also. These babies are beautiful. From the looks of it these games are very MINT. Good luck with them in the future if you sale.
  • I don't know that I would use the word mint on them personally. It's a word that is thrown around on ebay far too much! Mint to me is as it would feel if I were to walking into a store in 1985 and buy it. I am pretty ocd when it comes to this stuff. I have traded up many of these before settling on the best version. Most of them I would say are very good, a few are in fact mint, and a few have a ding or scuff mark here or there, but I believe they are in better condition than the last "mint" black box lots I've seen listed on ebay. Any game or game magazine that I was the original owner for it pretty much going to be mint. The first thing I do when I buy a new game is carefully remove the game and store the box in polypropylene plastic. That is if I even open the thing image

You can get a better look at the condition here: http://spoonman.roarvgm.com/videogame/nintendo8bit.html

Keep in mind the scanner light bouncing off a glossy black cover and make some small deviations in the cover look much worse than it actually is.

@ TheFrisbee: Don't make me pull out my tote of SNES classics image I recently sold my Earthbound complete/truly mint/+unscratched cards for $450 on ebay. I took offers on here to start, but they were on the low end. That helped with some bills :]

  • I knew I recognized that site. I went there to get a complete list of all the black box games to make sure I got all of them. I just started to collect them so I only have like 6 so far.
  • I am interested, whats the price
  • I have Super Mario Bros, Pinball, and a very beat up copy of 10 Yard Fight. All are complete CIB. PM me if interested. I'll sell for 90% of eBay prices.
