The publishers of Famicom pirates latched onto the popular game trends at the time they were releasing their Famicom pirates. So, that's why Mario Bros. 9 is called "Super Mario World 9" and they use Super Mario World artwork on their labels sometimes -- Super Mario World had been released and was very popular. Same is true, I guess, of the Contra pirate.
