Suggestion on not allowing ebay auctions to be posted with 1 day or less remaining that arent yours.

I really feel a rule saying you cant list auctions that arent yours with less than 1 day remaining would be a nice idea. Treat it just like newly completed auctions. Posting it right at the end will just make it go normal price no matter what on this site. Occasionally it might not affect the price but more often then not posting it here wont help anyone get it cheap and most likely the OP of that thread just has alterior motives. Now i understand posting auctions that are unique or your own auctions but id like to see if the auctions arent yours then less than 1 day remaining shouldnt be posted

If you have been following an item for a week or a few days and are prepared to bid then with a frw hours left someone on here posts a hey look at this listing the price is low, that just isnt good for anyone. Of course with most auctions they will be sniped anyway but there really isnt a reason to post an auction like that especially for a not so rare item.

  • I've never been a fan of posting auctions regardless how much time is left. Sometimes someone might see a listing that may have an error or for whatever reason has a chance to go a little cheaper than normal. All of a sudden a member here will post the link knowing people probably missed it saying it was listed wrong or something. It really isn't fair to the people who actually searched and found the auction and are watching it. I guarantee the people sharing others auctions don't plan on bidding or they wouldn't share the link. If that same person is watching an auction for themselves to bid on then they will not share it. Anyway, this is my biggest pet peeve about this site. I know this isn't the only forum that allows this but I'm still not a fan.
  • exactly there always generally is a different motive to posting it. In some cases they want the price point to jump to not hurt the one they already owns value. And I agree if they are bidding they wouldnt want it posted. I feel its the "look cool" for posting an auction someone might have missed mentality. I think it would be hard to police auctions listed in general and people would disagree on what constitutes unique. So I think a good compromise to that would just be not being allowed to list any auction thats not yours with a day or less remaining. Cut out some of these types of threads that do nothing but hurt current bidders and watchers.
  • I agree w this. I feel better about not posting auctions now
  • One day left or one week left doesn't really seem like it would make much of a difference. Eventually there will only be one day left, so does that mean we would have to go around and remove all the links that are less then 1 day left?

I agree though, I never was really a fan of links to auctions that are not yours and are not anything special other then the item being cheap.
  • We don't go around deleting links after an auction ends even though we have a rule about no completed auction links for 14 days, so I would say no we wouldn't have to remove links once it got down to one day if this rule was enacted.

I can see the point of how it's disappointing if you have been watching something for a week just for someone to post a link to it right near the end. Usually people tend to get blasted when they do that already. Now I don't agree that people generally have any type of anterior motive when posting auction links.

I like the Auction Site Spotlight section in general, as I don't have the time or energy to constantly search ebay. So I don't mind paying a fair price for something unique and chances are I would miss it if someone didn't link it here. I would be fine with a rule against posting open auctions in the last 24 hours though.
  • Yeah I don't see anything wrong with someone posting a link to an auction. I thought this community was also about helping others find deals so not allowing sharing of free information is ridiculous in my opinion. I have never once bought something just cuz someone posted a link to a cheap auction If you don't want to lose an auction bid the most you will pay at the beginning so you don't lose that item.

you miss the point entirely. There is no point in posting a link to a common enough item that isnt your own auction. There is nothing to talk about. This site gets millions of hits. you are just ruining it for others. You arent helping anyone.

especially posting it at the end. thats why i said that in general posting auctions right before the end that arent yours just needs to be stopped. It helps no one.

Deals are found all the time in the Random Good BIN thread posted by other members. It's a great thread that I'm sure just about everyone enjoys. Auctions are not definite. The only "cheap auctions" are the ones that are over and went unnoticed. I agree with the OP.
  • I can see how someone could be upset because they lost an auction but the bottom line is put in the highest bid you are willing to pay for something and pray you win it. This site does get a lot of foot traffic but eBay gets even more. Not hard to find items on there at all and just because something doesn't have a lot of bids until the last minute is nothing new. Every time I've sold something on there that people want my eBay app alerts me 20 times in the last minute that bids are being placed. Any half decent ebayer knows not to bid until the last hour because no one wants to see a bidding war except the seller. What I completely disagree with is the idea of mods deleting posts because people point at certain auctions that are ending. That can only create more problems than saving someone some money cuz they didn't want to bid to win.

we all know how ebay works.

this is about creating a thread for stuff that there isnt even worthy to discuss all in the sake of hey guys this is still cheap. I guess you just wont understand till it happens to you.
  • It has happened to me plenty of times and I learned my lesson. I read your post about Metal Warriors and if you think that's not a game worthy of a discussion than I honestly don't know what is.
  • its on ebay every week and montly CIB. Auction Spotlight is for posting your own auctions and things worthy to talk about that are unique or truly rare. That thread was created with the intent of "hey look guys this is still kinda cheap and is almost over". There was no point in it.

What are we supposed to talk about with a metal warriors CIB?

oh hey, yep thats a CIB metal warriors. Confirmed. and then watch it go for near normal price. Great thread guys.
  • I see your point that it blows for those that might find an auction that maybe slipped through the cracks but disallowing heads up type of threads isn't what this community should be known for. I joined this site so I could learn from others and I have appreciated every bit of help that some members have given me. I have also felt the vibe from some on here that everything is a secret and that it's every man for themselves. I could care less for that kind of attitude from anyone because the way I see it I will win what I want to win on eBay/NA auctions if it means that much to me. I hate the attitude of secretive (I'm not sharing my secrets) type crap because at the end of the day that's a weasle. Hiding in a corner hoping no one sees something and only poking your head out to show your finders keepers ain't cool. Finding a deal is different than creating new rules about what information can be shared. This is my view and I know some don't see it that way. I'm not in this to make money or to gloat about my finds. If I see something I really want I buy it and that's the end of it. Censorship is never good! Next thing we find out is that a mod might delete a post just because they are eyeing an auction even if it's not in the last day before ending. I have had a few people point me to an auction or a for sale thread on here and I couldn't say thanks enough for some of the things I've purchased because of them. Why did they do it? Because we completed a transaction, maybe cuz we exchanged some PMs... That's what this community should be about. I'd rather pay a few extra bucks and have a few A list people than to be a lonely weasel
  • You nailed it we are all weasles who dont want to pay full price for our collection. Seriously if you think this suggestion is bad you should get more active in the community and realize whats really going on behind closed doors with larger collectors. You might just want to quit collectinh if you knew the real activity going on
  • There already is a thread for posting good deals. You havent been here that long. I dont think you fully understand the NA effect

Id appreciate it if this back and forth just stopped. You wont ever understand. Your awesome for obviously caring about random lurker strangers who poach na for deals. I have friends here. I have not so friends here. Ill help out friends no problem but giving away free advice at possible detriment to someone else i wont.

But that isnt even the point. Posting a common enough item is pointless. If i went through every R6-R8 and posted every auction that popped up would those threads get locked? Obviously because there would no reason to post it because its not a good deal, its an auction. No one needs my help looking for auctions.

Lets just dtop it. Its my suggesstion and thanks for your input.

  • Auction Site Spotlight

Post ITEMS OF INTEREST found on eBay or any other site that sells Nintendo stuff.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I believe a few people asked about Metal Warriors this past week so i applaud whoever brings up auctions or sites with cheaper prices. Bid higher next time and you will avoid this mess altogether. You are right we won't see eye to eye on this one. Just don't censor ... no on pe wants to see more rules. Later.

  • ^^^"Items of interest" means something that is unique and can be discussed beyond how much everyone wants it. People are talking about Metal Warriors a lot lately for two reasons; firstly, that it's a good game; secondly, that it's an expensive game. That does not merit good discussion when talking about a run-of-the-mill CIB copy. If you want to discuss the quality of the game, go to Gamer's Gauntlet. If you want to discuss the high price of MW and other SNES games, go to Collector's Corner.

Pointing friends towards deals is great and something I have done many times, but there's a strong difference between PMing a friend about it and posting it publicly where everyone can see it (including people buying to sell). In the act of publicly passing along the good deal, you turn it into an average/bad deal and you nullify your original purpose.

So, I 100% agree with this rule of not posting within 24 hours. You wouldn't have to delete links that were posted with 3 days left but now have 1 day left, because the prices of those auctions would have already normalized by then anyway. However I think people should be more educated on what "Items of Interest" really means.
  • Agreed krunch
  • I favour this idea of not posting auctions that end in less than 24 hours. This wouldn't mean that mods have to delete auctions that have already been posted which have less than 24 hours left (in the same way that mods don't need to delete posts of completed listings). I don't have a problem with people posting auctions up, but sometimes when people post an auction up which is almost at a close I can't help be suspicious of their motives.

As for the penalty though - I think there should be a warning initially. I definitely don't think it should be HOS-worthy especially for the first offense, as it is an easy mistake to make, especially for new members. But just having it as a rule should be enough to discourage it, and for the person to be criticised.
