mame cab

so i finally got around to making a mame arcade cabinet (been wanting to do this for 5+ years).  i put some rough details here:

it only took about a month to get it looking good and working, but i did work on it pretty much everyday.  it is really cool though, it has over 4000 games on it.  still got some stuff to do, glass, side art etc.  you can even save your game in Mame, which is really nice.  you do need a beefed up computer though, the newer games require a good processor and at least 1 GB ram.

  • Very nice dude. I would like to do this someday, but before making a mame cabinet I would like to make a jukebox.
  • wow you did a awesome job! I would love to do something like that but just dont have the skill/attention span
  • that looks fantastic!
  • That's a project I've been planning for a while. After you've tested a bunch of games out on the machine could you post your thoughts on how that monitor performs?
  • Nice project man. I have thought about doing this before. Maybe some day.....

i really like the monitor.  i already had an acer 19" so i knew i could trust getting the 22" off the internet without seeing it.  they are affordable and have great color.  i have heard that LCD's can give you trouble with the sound because of the refresh rate not matching the games refresh rate, but i havent had any problems.  i am just glad that all the mortal kombat run at full speed and sound (except MK 4, which no one has at full speed).  tekken 3 and NFL blitz is another issue though, they require a super fast and expensive computer to run, not worth the money.
  • Nice cabinet. Alle you need now is marvel vs capcom 2.. ahhh...
  • That's pretty sweet, coinheaven. I built a Mame cabinet from scratch back when I was in college, but I had minimal tools and resources so although it's still sweet, it's very much unfinished. I'm thinking I might go back and put the time and money I now have into making it a lot nicer.

yea, that i why i bought an old cabinet.  i dont have the time to build a new one from scratch since its going to get cold soon and i wanted something to play in the winter.  i see some projects online that take almost 2 years to build, not for me.  im glad i waited though because a few years ago people used to (and still do) use tv's.  with the prices of flat screen computer monitors so cheap and light weight, i figured it was the better choice.  so is yours functional, but still needs some cosmetic works done?
  • The only thing I would have done differently would be to stick with a CRT so that games show up in their native resolutions. I play MAME on my PC a lot and sometimes the scaling bothers me.

  • Great job Mate...................
