Like the checkmark on Facebook ... good idea. Im a very impatient SOB when it comes to getting responses on here to the point I end up sending more PMs than I need to. I hate waiting longer than 15 minutes for a response. It would be nice to know if someone actually read the PMs Im sending.
I think it could cause some people to avoid reading messages as they come to prevent the icon from flipping - unless they had the time to immediately consider an offer and respond. I don't really see any positive to adding this feature. If they were going to respond immediately, they would. What would you do differently if someone read your message and didn't respond after 15 minutes? Maybe they need more than 15 minutes to think about it.
It's a double edged sword if you ask me, on one hand you can see if the other person has read it, on the other hand it could have people getting irritated if they don't get a response right away or close to it.
i think its a great idea!All someone has to do is reply with a simple Pending, or Let Me Think About It. There is no reason to avoid clear communication.

I've been asked this one before, but I'm not a fan of this idea because it's a breach of privacy IMO. I think it's nobodies business but mine to know when I read a message. While I appreciate the intent, this will not be implemented on NA.

I don't think it's a breach of privacy. It's like sending an e-mail with a required Delivery Notification and Read Response. Just have an option to turn it off
I don't like the option either. Sometimes it is hard to reply to a message immediately if you are busy, and there would be nothing more annoying than getting another message from someone complaining because they know you read their message but didn't reply within 5 seconds!
You can always get a good indication if someone has seen your message by just seeing the last time they were online. Nobody needs any more information than that.
I wouldn't want people to know when I read their messages. It's an option on my iPhone, and I said HELL NO. I like taking my time sometimes to respond to messages, and if they knew I looked at it an hour ago, I don't want them sending me another like "Oh, I know you read my message".
The idea has it's merits, but I'm not a fan of it. To echo what a few have said already, I wouldn't want to be hounded by somebody who knows I read their message a few minutes ago when I might need a couple hours or a even day to think about it.
