Queen bed on my side, and only way i get comfy is with 4 pillows. Some how always end up laying opposite way in the morning with sheets and stuff all over the place. Really gotta record myself sleeping one day.
My house is a bit older, and the stairwell wouldn't accomodate our nice new queen box spring. We had to stow it and go buy a split queen box spring. We were just sleeping on the mattress, on the floor for a while. It was funny trying to twist it every which way. It wound up sitting in the dining room for about a month while we tried to return it; they wouldn't exchange it.
Better than when Marie first moved in with me, and we only had a cramped one-bedroom apartment, so we literally stacked our beds. It was two box springs, with two mattresses atop them Talk about jumping out of bed in the morning!
I sleep in the floor, don't even have a bed. I have a bad back and sleeping in a bed prevents me from walking if I sleep in one more than a few nights. I sleep on my side with tons of pillows.

Dan, I had that exact problem in our house (built in 1922). I managed to squeeze the box spring up the stairs, but now I'm fairly sure I'll have to cut it apart to get it back out of the house.
I have a queen size memory foam mattress. Those things are fantastic! Don't piss away your money of the Tempur brand stuff (they're not even the originals, they just spend the most money on marketing), because ALL of the brands are made of the same thing.
My in-laws have one of those memory foam ones. It came in a relatively small package, heavy but small, since it was vacuum-sealed. It's open-cell foam so it collapses down to like 1/2 its size, and it was rolled up. I think it came in a standard carton.
It's nice but it can be a bit warm in the summer months. I guess any mattress is gonna hold heat overnight though.
Yeah, the insulative properties of it are my only big complaint. But as long as you use linen sheets (instead of Jersey material or flannel) you should be OK.
funny Batty.. actually when mattress shopping last year, my wife and I really enjoyed the comfortable from the Latex mattress, it is soft but firm.. and it has a 2" layer of memory foam on top so it really feels nice.. and SHHH!! I thought you promised not to tell everyone about my bed wetting problems!! But are you going to tell everyone how you found out about it?
sleep on my back on my king size bed, sometimes on my side. I have a really firm matress to accomodate what football did to my back. The pillow top helps with comfort for my wife. Works great for us both.
Double Mattress on my side. For the first 9 months after Bodhi was born we co-slept with him in our bed. It was great for building that connection with him and all but I don't think I have ever had so little room to sleep. Literally pressed up against the wall every night. He has moved to his crib now so I can actually spread out a little.
Queen, on my back, but usually end up on my side by morning. Bad neck, so I use really flat pillows to keep my head from getting all wonky in the night.
