Getting Around eBay's New Fee System

Much to my shegrine, eBay's new fees are totally wack.  I haven't sold anything in about three months until I listed a few items earlier today, which you can check out on the auction site spot light forum.  Anyway, if you are doing BIN, I noticed it is 15% on video games and only 8% on video game systems.  So after I realized this, I just listed all my games under the systems category.  It may cost an extra 20 cents to list intially under systems, but I think the percentage makes a difference.  Just wanted to know if anyone else has had success with this or if they are on the look out for people pulling some crap like this.

  • They'll yank your auctions, refund your fee and give you a warning, mate. Especially for fee avoidance, but even for lesser offenses they'll yank 'em all in one shot.
  • Like Dan said, some of your items could get yanked if you list this way. And if you continue to do this after your items get yanked, you could get suspended. 15% is a huge increase, it may be worth it for you to just not list anything with a BIN. I never list anything with a BIN anyway, so this really will not effect me too much.
  • Well two of the BIN's I put up under the systems category have already sold. Is there anything they can do if the auctions have already sold under the "wrong" category?
  • I haven't sold anything on ebay in loooong time cause of there faggotry, I've really slowed my buying to do to other acts of faggotry by sellers sending crap in padded envelopes even after I request them to be shipped in boxes...common people it costs the same damn price.

Sometimes eBay will retroactively remove listings if they violate TOS in some severe way (like sale of prohibited items, this happens often with pirates that get BIN'ed). But for fee avoidance, I'm sure they wouldn't do that, they're still making money off of a legit item, just not listed in a way that makes them the most money.

The would either 1. give you a warning, 2. suspend if you're a repeat offender like Nick mentioned, or 3. charge you the difference as an "adjustment" to your bill. I haven't heard of this last one happening to anyone, but I really wouldn't put it past them to do so.

I'd say, let it ride until they stop you, and then don't do it anymore. But you will get stopped - now more than anytime they're policing miscategorization of items because it directly translates to $$$ and figures into their plans for what the site will become.
  • Just use chasethechuckwagon.com
  • My experience with ebay is that they don't ever notice items in the wrong category unless someone reports it.

I had some gameboy box only listings under the gameboy games category and I got a question from someone asking if there was a game included. A day or two later, I got a call from ebay saying that same box I was asked about was in the wrong category and they were pulling it. They neglected to notice that I had another 200 gameboy boxes listed the same way. They don't seem to do much investigating. However, they are more likely to do so in this example as it now directly effects their bottom line.
  • What about the accessories category? What is the fee on those for BIN?
  • I used to do only BIN. Now because eBay has been kind enough to choose to rape me, I do auctions with a high starting bid and a BIN for $1 more.

So far I have had good luck. a few things even went higher then expected.

All the fees we're paying and they've increased the number of ads on thier site. Ebay wont need a bail out anytime soon. DICKS!
