Opinions about Saw V

Ok... me being an absolute horror nut I relish the opportunity to continue watching movies related to good characters.  All the Friday's, Halloween's, Nightmares, etc...

But I am curious as to what people think about Saw 4 and now Saw V coming out on October 24th.  I have to admit it was pretty sweet to see Robert the Bruce from Braveheart be the star of Saw IV but still even he died at the end of that one.  The home page for the movie has the one remaining bad guy using Jigsaw's face as a mask ala Leatherface, which I have to admit was pretty cool looking.  Seems to me this is a money grab... but they will of course get mine as I will have to see it.

  • Of course it's a money grab image Just like all of the " Movie" movies.
In an interview one of the producers actually used the phrase "Making these movies is like a license to print money".
  • Yep but I hate all the "Movie" movies... I watched the 1st Scary Movie and after that I haven't seen any of the rest of the "Movie" movies. Bunch of crap... but yes cost $5MM to make, record sales of $20-50MM why would you ever stop making them? I just really hoped that Lion's Gate and Twisted Pictures would come up with something else to love in the horror genre... the story's been told and now they are down to one last guy and wanting to "rap up loose ends"....

Hell Lion's Gate went so far to capitalize off the SAW brand that they even made another horror movie I have on DVD called... crap I'm at work can't remember the name of it... basically a game show where you had to face your worst fear but all of the things were rigged traps that killed you... it was so much like Saw it shoulda been called Saw 1.5 or something.
  • The 7th Art is such a whore sometimes...
  • I'm kinda excited about saw V, will be interesting how everything ends  (assuming this is the last in the series)

Edit* According to wikipedia theres going to be a saw VI !

  • I'm definitely a fan of the Saw series. I just recently rented part IV and thought it was ok, but definitely not the best of the bunch. It was good enough for me to see part V and VI though!
  • i'm all for it, and I have my grandma (RIP) on my moms side to thank for that one

letting us watch nightmare on elm street everytime we came down to their house... on BETA!!!!

    yea i'm old...

I can't wait to see it, i'm sure there will be a surprise in it that could lead into a 6th, who knows, but i'd love to see that too
  • You said Beta... LOL! Wow that is old... nothing like stubby video tapes. Did your family buy into Laser Disc players too? hehe... sorry sorry

My dad still has his laser disk player lol image

  • I just bought some laserdiscs last week. They're decorating my game room. They're cheap ($2 a pop) and big, they're essentially just art. The T2 one I get even folds out, double-wide baby! I also got Highlander, Aliens, and a couple others that escape me right now.

About all they're good for, but I love 'em. I needed more cheap stuff to adorn the stairwell on the way down into the batcave.
  • Well to be fair I have Braveheart Laser Disc... nice big double foldout one as well! But that's not saying much as I even have Braveheart on Danish VHS... LOL I'm a sucker for anything with Mighty William Wallace or Robert the Bruce.
  • Well I heard somewhere that Part VI is going to be the final version of the SAW franchise. I don't know if these people were making this up but that is what I heard. It is supposed to add up to an even bigger plot then Part I-V combined.

nope, no one in my family has owned a laser disc player or a laser disc for that matter

geez, what do you think, we were wealthy?

I still have a copy of star wars on beta

  • Ya know for what the Saw series is I really do think it is great. We don't have those horror films around like we did in the 80s/early 90s where we could depend on a sequal every couple years... well I guess except for the Saw series. I will likely see it, but will wait for the redbox to get it.

and if anyone has a cheap working laser disc player they want to rid themselves of please contact me. I have a nice pile of LDs that i picked up at a thrift years ago
  • Personally, I'm having a hard time getting into the Saw series. It's less horror and more gore, which just doesn't add up to what I grew up enjoying in a "horror movie". Movies series like Elm Street, Friday, Chucky, Halloween, Children of the Corn, etc. are scary without throwing blood and guts everywhere. Horror movies need laughable cheese, too! That's part of the draw; they have you laughing a bit, and easing into the story, then BAM! dude jumps in through the mattress and stabs somebody. I'm going to sit down someday and watch all of Saw I-IV (haven't moved past the first one yet), but only after I finish a couple of the other major ones. Working my way through Friday the 13th series next image
  • im with nes guy, I enjoy a good horror movie but have found the saw films are all about the gore...which is fine but just not a draw for me. However strangely enough I love zombie films and they are all about the dumb gore so work that out.

I think the best horror film I saw recently was Descent. Oh man that was great IMHO.

I'm pretty sure the guy that said that was the guy who makes all those shitty spoof movies like Date Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, etc etc all fucking crap.
  • ^^^ Yeah, that's what I said, but rereading the context is a bit blurry.

nesguy - I completely agree. I'm more into actual horror movies, and I can't really get my wife to watch gratuitously gory movies that are what currently pass for "horror".
  • i will watch Saw 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, but i will NOT watch Saw X! image

i sat in front of the tv today watching the sci fi channel. there were freddy and jason movies on! ahhhh, it was a great day!

every halloween, i actually look forward to the new Saw that comes out. i think they are awesome.

I got the all to download on the movie thread in this section
  • Saw V? Shit I thought IV was the last one they were going to make, I don't think V will be very good, the first one is still the best.
  • This is the one I was referencing above.  Are You Scared.  Lion's Gate film, reminds me of SAW very much, ripping off their own movies.

Although the one scene on the front is pretty bad ass... it involves a set of twins, brother and sister to be exact... their greatest fear is to live without the other.  So they get sat down and strapped into chairs facing each other with a long track between them.  Huge drills on either side start going towards them... only one can be stopped at a time... so if the brother stops his, the sisters inches closer to her brain... and vice versa... pretty intense scene for sure!

  • christ man, nice selection there on the top row
  • I think Saw movies push the horror to far. I love how people will blame video games for f'ed up minds in kids but they won't look at some of the horror movies out right now. Saw is not even really scary to me its just sick.

the first one was good but then 2nd got a little crazy and 3rd and past that is just to much.

That's the ideal horror movie, it's not supposed to be some big pussy fest where you're laughing half the time, a horror movie is meant to shock and terrify you.

Would you prefer it were more like jack frost 2?

If people weren't so fucking stupid, it wouldn't even be an issue with what was causing the "problems" in the first place. Instead of using rational thoughts, they try to push it off on something stupid like movies or video games.

  • Well like I said I gotta like saw IV since it has my boy Angus in it...

    nice

one of my friends worked on starship troopers 2 (CG stuff), but he's flying solo on that one...

he also worked on Hellboy, Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions and some other movies I can't think of off hand,

  • Well to be fair I spent a couple weeks in Scotland and hung out with the cast and saw a private screening of Braveheart I loved it so much so I have lots of auto's... some of them are just extras you will never hear of or see again in a movie... just Scottish dudes who were war scene extras. But I have auto's from:

    Young Hamish

    Young William

    Lochlin

    Muron

    Princess

    Uncle Argyle

    King Edward the Longshanks

    Robert the Bruce

William Wallace (although I did not meet Mel Gibson I bought this one).

Missing Stephen and Older Hamish though... really wish I woulda seen them. Oh well... I still have phone number/email addy's for Andrew Weir and James Robison (Young Hamish and Young William) those two guys are awesome in real life.
  • ^^erik, im sorry to say, but that picture is kinda gay... unless it is in a movie room.
