I can never seem to catch a break and I'm sick of watching the ebay ones go for stupid amounts of money

I doubt it. If history repeats itself the SNES version will probably increase in price. A loose copy of Chrono Trigger was averaging around $45 before it was released on Virtual Console, now it's around $70-75.
I can only imagine that once the game releases on Virtual Console, it will hike even more. A lot more.
Look at Duck Tales on NES, when they announced the HD remake, the average asking/selling price went up (although Duck Tales is on a much smaller scale of value, so just imagine what Earthbound will become)

And besides since when is duck tales one rare and in high demand? That game is common and a price hike because of HD remake? Gimme a break look at double dragon 1 arcade on xbla long since gone I never saw any hike in sales of double dragon nes. Heaven forbid double dragon 2 on the nes gets a sales boost due to the remake of double dragon 2 xbla that game sucks so much ass I don't know where to begin.
Edit: Derp I'm thinking about Double Dragon Neon
Edit 2: Holy crap, as awesome as DD Neon was this thing looks like hot garbage. Why wouldn't they get Wayforward to do the 2 remake also?
Edit 3 so this remains on topic >_>: If you looks at when FF7 went up on the digital marketplace, the game which had previously been way overpriced plummeted to a $25-$30 game (as it should be)
I think Earthbound might be too ingrained in the collector/reseller's mindset as "that one really expensive game" to see a significant price drop, if it sees one at all, however.

Yeah they released a HD version of double dragon the arcade with slowdown and all lol before majesco had the rights to make double dragon neon. Part 2 remake or HD or whatever the hell it is tried the demo and it sucked hard worse than that The warriors brawl game. But oh well Nintendo fanboys will be Nintendo fanboys whatever....
People and collector's want physical copies. Double Dragon is a bad example, that first wasn't a remake, second it was a crap game compared to the original Double Dragon for NES, third, it's not even on the same level as Earthbound. It will continue to go up and up, just the nature of the beast. Old fan favorites go up.. sorry.

I agree collecter's prefer physical copys of things over emulated copys of games (I know I do anyway)!@level42 ,congrats on locating a copy of EB!
But you can't compare the 2 just yet due to the lack of ong term data i.e FF VII digital release for 4 years and announcement of Earthbound on Wii U mere weeks ago causing spikes and lulls in the price. Wait about 4 years later and you can gauge the price from it's current high to it's future price.

I don't disagree with that statement dreamstar I totally agree but your forgetting the idea some people want a bargain and are willing to make compromises to play a game regardless if it is a cart only copy. Sure you will have your hard core collectors which the price will either drop or rise depending on the market conditions but Earthbound is one of those cases where it is not in limited supply and it's valuations is due to it's popularity and cult status much like FF VII was.

I also agree with what you are saying, most people who are not collecters will settle for a emulated copy of a game. And yes EB is by all means not the NWC of rpgs for the Snes. There are much rarer rpgs and games in general for the Snes out there.
