Anyone know how to fix a dieing EPROM on a game?

I just recently got a Panesian game for the NES called Bubble Bath Babes. The game works, starts up, music plays and so fourth but the graphics are a little scrambled. I have cleaned it thoroughly and tried it in 4 different NES's and still no luck. My friend said it is most likely that the eprom is dieing in it and said it can be fixed. Would anyone have the least bit idea how I would go about doing this? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

  • I haven't seen the PCB for this game, so I'm not sure if it actually uses EPROMs or not (most don't), but if it is, I could fix it for you. First I'd make sure that's the actual problem, as I've never personally run into a game that's started to get bit rot. I've run into broken solder joints before, which could cause problems like you mention. You should open up the cart and check if they are EPROMs or not. If they are, they would have little round windows in the center of the chips (or a sticker on them covering the window).
  • There's a pic of the board and the chip designations in this thread Penguin also posted:

He's asked me to possibly get it fixed for him but if someone else wants to do it, by all means.
  • I see, well those are definitely EPROMs, so it can be fixed. I've got everything needed to do so and I wouldn't charge you anything to fix it, you'd just need to cover shipping.
  • Good deal, I was going to charge my time, and I didn't want to handle something that difficult to replace anyway. image
