"Sega Gamer" Award to be added but we need your help Sega Fans
So I have been duscussing it with a few guys about the "Sega Gamer" Award but before we implement it we thought we could ask the community what they think.
What I want everyone to do is list your top 30 staple/exclusive franchises. This can span from the Master System to the Dreamcast. Just ask yourself, "What are the games that made Sega?"
I will leave the votes going for about a week or two. Once we have everyones take I will look through the lists and choose the top 25 franchises.
EDIT: For any member to obtain the award you will only need ONE game per franchise.

Funny thing is my list will probably consist of popular but very common titles. While MUSHA and The Punisher are fun and very expensive games I don't see them as the "Sega Gods" and will not be included on my list.
When I'm back home in RI, I'll get to list making. Until then my noodle will be hard at work comparing games.

Maybe it's in the works...Maybe it isn't

Nah, we got this.
Here are my defining picks from the Genesis and Sega CD. I was never a Saturn or Dreamcast guy, so hopefully we'll get a good mix from others. Most of these are Sega exclusives, and although some did appear on NES or SNES, they were universally worse when ported.
Aladdin
Altered Beast
Castlevania: Bloodlines
Comic Zone
Earthworm Jim
Ecco the Dolphin
Ecco: Tides of Time
Ghouls n' Ghosts
Golden Axe
Gunstar Heroes
Herzog Zwei
Jurassic Park
Kid Chameleon
Lunar: Eternal Blue (CD)
Madden '97
Mortal Kombat
NBA Jam T.E.
NHL '94
Night Trap (CD)
Phantasy Star (1 on the SMS, or 2 on the Genesis)
Ranger-X
Revenge of Shinobi
Ristar
Robo Aleste (CD)
Rocket Knight Adventures
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Splatterhouse 3
Streets of Rage 2
Strider
Toe Jam and Earl
Vectorman
i may edit my post and add another 29, but i just wanted to initially throw my thoughts out about snatcher.
So with that in mind
Crazy Taxi Dreamcast
Altered Beast -Genesis
Castlevania: Bloodlines - Genesis
Comic Zone - Genesis
Coulmns -Genesis or Game Gear
Crusader of Centy -maybe too collector biased - Genesis
Ecco the Dolphin - Genesis
Golden Ax Warrior - Master System
Golden Axe - Genesis
Gunstar Heroes - Genesis
Hang On - Master System
Lunar: - Sega CD
Marvel Vs Capcom 2 - Dreamcast
Marvel Vs Capcom 2 - Dreamcast
Mega Bomberman - Genesis
Mortal Kombat - Genesis
Musha - Genesis
Night Trap - Sega CD or 32x
Nights Into Dreams - Saturn
Phantasy Star 3 - Genesis
Ristar - Genesis or Game Gear
Shining Force - Genesis
Snatcher - maybe too collector biased -Sega CD
Somic Adventure - Dreamcast
Sonic the Hedgehog - Genesis
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Genesis or Game Gear
Spiderman Web of Fire - 32x if only to make this award harder to get
Splatterhouse 3 - Genesis
Star Wars Arcade - 32x
Streets of Rage 2 - Genesis
Strider - Genesis
Toe Jam and Earl - Genesis
Vectorman - Genesis
Virtua Fighter - Saturn
I am also very amazed that two of my favorite games haven't been mentioned yet and Sega published both.
So far the lists look great. We need everyone's support on this so if you guys can make a nice long list of at least 25 games that would help out immensely.

I also considered Snatcher but wasn't sure if that was defining for the CD. I thought about Centy too, but while it's one of my favorites, I don't think it *made* the Genesis, and don't believe the award should rely on titles that are just hard to get / expensive for the sake of them being hard to get / expensive.

I also did not include some of my own favorite games. Zombies Ate My Neighbors is one of my top titles, but I wouldn't call it defining for just the Genesis. Same goes for Blades of Vengeance, Primal Rage, Battletech, D&D, Gain Ground, Landstalker, Moonwalker, King's Bounty, and Wonder Boy. They're all excellent games, but not really exclusive.

Yes, snatcher is expensive and some may even consider rare, but that isn't why I nominated it. The general consensus is that snatcher is awesome, right? And already stated, the sega cd was/is the only way to play it in the US, which I though would cancel out the fact it wasn't sega made. It essentially is a sega exclusive.
I could have easily said three other expeneisve/rare sega cd games: space adventure, Keio, or radical Rex. space adventure, which is the same genre as snatcher, doesn't have nearly the same recognition, Keio, which is a good shmup, doesn't do anything that great, and radical Rex just sucks.

Agreed.
If you don't want to help so be it but don't come into the thread crapping on it.
@FinalFight I see your point on snatcher and I added it on my list as well. I feel like the games should cover all the systems but unless it is famouly made for Sega like MK than we shouldn't have it ont he list. Zombies ate my neighbor was a great example, awesome game but it's really a multiplatform release and doesn't scream Sega.
One way I tried to think about it was, if I made a Sega Fighting Game which characters would go in it?
2. Fantasy Zone
3. Wonder Boy
4. Wonder Boy 3: Dragon's Trap
5. Shinobi
6. Golden Axe
7. Altered Beast
8. Strider
9. Sonic The Hedgehog
10. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
11. Sonic the Hedgehog 3
12. Ecco the Dolphin
13. Streets of Rage 2
14. Phantasy Star
15. Panzer Dragoon
16. Panzer Dragoon Saga
17. Phantasy Star IV
18. Sonic Adventure
19. Crazy Taxi
20. Virtua Fighter 2
21.House of the Dead
22. Shining Force 2
23. Skies of Arcadia
24. Comix Zone
25. Outrun
26. Shenmue
27. Sakura Wars
28. Afterburner
29.Space Harrier
30. Toe Jam and Earl
I tried to be representative of each generation as I feel the master system was defined by Yu Suzuki arcades (space harrier, outrun, afterburner), alex kidd, and wonder boy. The Genesis was defined by sonic, streets of rage, ToeJam and Earl, Shining Force, Phantasy Star, etc. The Saturn was defined by AM2 conversions and Panzer Dragoon. The Dreamcast was defined by Crazy Taxi, Space Channel 5, Shenmue and a lot of other new and different IPs. Anyways, a lot had to be left out (third party) and I didn't even get to touch the Sega CD. But a few titles I think needed multiple games such as sonic. Love em or hate em, they screamed SEGA.

^Did you read (between the lines) in my post?
The opinion may be crap to you but it is not thread crapping.
I like to help but this award is so incredibly vague and directionless to me, that I though I'd share my opinion on the matter. It seems like we're just creating them for the sake of having them, like those Banana Republic dictators dressed in their best complete with a puffed out Chest of Medals.

Having the award or not isn't up for debate, it's happening. How could I read between the lines of your post? It's one line, and it saws the award is retarded you don't have lines for me to read between.
You said you feel the award is directionless, but I see some pretty cleaer direction and I see the attempt being made to get it right and figure out exactly how this award should be handled. When the award was first made I was one of the first to come out and say this is shit, lets fix it. He said everyone we need your help / support, you weren't helping nor were you supporting.
If I don't like tea I don't walk into a tea house and start shouting "I hate Tea it's retarded, I think we should drink coffee".
Now from the FAQ Negativity. Negativity includes meaningless complaining without being constructive. It also includes whining, thread-crapping, and any other words or actions that describe or display negativity.
So if you don't wan't to call it thread crapping I think we can file it under negativity. This forum has become to much of a "I hate you kids, get off my lawn" type of place . I have talked to a few of the other guys and they feel the same way.
Anyhow, on to the meaty bits-

I spray negativity everywhere, rarely am I challenged or harshy reprimanded. This seems like something you have been saving up for awhile. Let it all hang out, that's the spirit!

Well if you want to keep SegaAge sterile and shiny like Mr Clean's man-tits you might as well get all your little silent pouty pals together and ban the everloving shit outta' me.
If being negative is breaking rules than you had better send a Terminator.
I am the bleeding when you open up the vein
I am the overdose that rushes to your brain
I'm all you've come to loathe all you've known to hate
I am the hunter when you come to take the bait
Just underneath your skin is evils origin
Come see the face of devastation
You are me, I am abomination

I couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you Johnny.
I had a feeling some members wouldn't like the idea but this isn't the place to give your opinion about it. Be of assistince and feel free to suggest awards that you feel are NOT "retarded".
We attempted to add this award many months ago and it didn't end well. If we wanted to add awards for the "sake" of it then why would we ask the communities opinion on the matter. We could have easily implemented the award without anyones blessing and been done with it.
This way we get the community involved with not only the awards aspect of the site but I'm sure we can get some great disccussion on some of the greatest games Sega had to offer.

It may be bad form for someone new to the forum to post on an argument. But it might be refreshing to see how this looks to someone who is fresh to the community.
I'm not too sure if the moderating team is too concerned with the community's opinion on the manner. As can be seen from the quote above; they want to announce this is a thread for opinions, but in the same post announce this is not the place for opinions.
It was stated in an earlier post that the forum has a "get off my lawn" mentality. It might. But it may not be the people you think it is.
The original post along the lines of 'I normally help out but find the Sega Gamer Award retarded' was a little tactless. But something you just let roll off or dig into why.
Anyways, from what I've seen, this post may not last long. But hopefully it reaches enough people to allow reflection some on the community. I honestly don't want to offend anyone. But I also like the idea of a SEGA specific forum for collectors and would like it to flourish.
I imagine that this is where a lot of the anti medal and award talk comes from. There is a decent amount of research indicating that awards and such in an online community create mean competitive behavior. I have noticed that this site is loaded with awards. People may just be voicing their opinions on that. It would be nice if the whole forum had a chance to voice their opinion not on what games should appear, but if they even want awards. Instead, I see a lot of "we need to keep ahead of Nintendo Age".
Anyways, take what you will from it.
