Sega CD NFRs

Going through those super cool awards that everybody seems to have these days and I find one for Sega CD NFR Collection. There's only one person who's got it: Johnny of course! I suppose I could just PM him and ask directly, but where's the fun in that? His "Complete List of SCD Games" doesn't go into NFRs and the SA db is totally useless for this task at this moment.

I'm guessing this is mainly the pack-ins that came with the consoles? If that is true, through the happy act of buying boxed consoles, I must be close! Here's the ones that I know about with some question marks if they count.

Model 1 SCD

Sol-Feace

Arcade Classics 4-in-1/ Sherlock Holmes

Colors of Modern Rock?

Hot Hits/ Rock Paintings?

I mean these aren't games, but they did come in the box so...?

Model 2 SCD

Sewer Shark

+variants?

Did any other game ever come packaged with the model 2?

JVC X'Eye

I have the red box version so it might have different stuff in it? I got:

Prize Fighter with a full size manual which is different from every other NFR

Compton's Encyclopedia Red/Black variants (Johnny still needs the black one so obviosuly variants don't count)

JVC Karaoke Top Hit Sampler? not like this is a game either

Looking at a CIB x'eye on ebay tells me the blue box has the same games, but with a red text Compton's. My red box has the black text version. Ha! The one thing I have that Johnny doesn't!!! I must celebrate this victory for I will never have another.

CDX

Arcade Classics 5-in-1/ Ecco the Dolphin

Sonic CD with its ultra sexy red disc

Any other games ever come in a NFR version? I need to validate my life with these cool icons already. PLZ HLP! <3

Hell for that matter were the Arcade Classic 4/5in1 or Sherlock Holmes ever released not as NFR games? If no they should probably be listed as a combo game in the SA db and changed to NFR no matter what. One day we will get this thing right.

  • Looks pretty accurate to me...I'm not the expert though. I also have all the NFRs plus variants minus the Comptons Black Text, which will complete my SCD collection...even picked up an extra Comptons Red text. Good laydown,
  • Joe Montana came packed in with the sports version of the model 2 also I have heard that colors of modern rock came with some model 1's but that has neve been confirmed

As far as a complete NFR's no variants do not really count. though I suppose the case for comptons variants could be made since they were different versions.

Sewer Shark has 3 pack in variants so keep your eye out for those.

as far as my complete lists go they aren't for variants they are mainly for Retail Releases, I am not the only one with the NFR set either, John (SWLovinist) Space Flea, DreamTR and several others have this it is one of the easier awards to get, infact if you collet Sega CD you can almost stumble onto this sub set.
  • I wouldn't count sol feace as a NFR, as it doesn't say that on the disc or case. There are probably others as well on your list.

  • I figured more people had these, but you're the only one officially recognized with the happy little icon Johnny: http://www.segaage.com/index.cfm?FuseAction=Users.Directory&award=74 It just seemed so easy. You're pretty much right. I almost have this without even trying for it.

I knew about the Sewer Shark ones. I've got 2 of them. One with the Sony logo and one without so I'm missing the Compact Disc 4101 variant. Had no idea about Joe Montana or another Compton's. Thanks for the answers guys!

Hot Hits is the only disc from the model 1 I can find saying NFR. "For promotional use only. Not for sale."

    4in1/Sherlock: http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-in-1-Classics-with-manual-Sega-CD-Sherlock-Holmes-/160874089069?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item2574d7ca6d

Colors of Modern Rock pack-in/mail away/whatever thing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Colors-of-Modern-Rock-Sega-CD-Music-Video-Disc-/190711468009?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item2c674a0fe9

I can't really read these too well, but I don't see NFR on them at all. If that is the case, I only need Hot Hits before I "complete" the set and earn my icon. Waiting on Joe Montana and Sonic CD (my CDX was missing it) to show up and I'll throw some pictures up of this stuff. Then maybe I can begin the long arduous task of trying to find a Red and Blue Compton's disc. And the hopefully less arduous task of getting the 4101 Sewer Shark. Anybody got one of these they don't want?

and because this isn't hard enough already there's a fucking manual variant as well. Left one came with my Black text. Right one came with my Blue text. I don't have one for the Red version. Likewise, I only have the sleeve for the black and red versions, but they're identical.

  • i like pictorial guides. nice.
  • I thought we already had pictures of those in the SCD collector's guide.
  • I know not where this mystical guide is.
  • It's stickied right above this thread.
  • ok well in that case, yeah I've seen that before and it's evolved quite a bit from it's text only form that I last saw. When did that change?

Even then it's not entirely accurate because I got my black text Compton's from my Red Box JVC. and at least you can add a picture of the manual variant.
  • Yeah. We had all the pictures and primary discussion locked up in a private thread for a while to prevent a couple price gougers from doin' their thing, but the pictures were returned to the original thread for everyone to enjoy back in January. There's still quite a bit of information in the private not yet recorded on the public one. Conversation there is dead now and should all be moved back because I don't think any of us really cares anymore (well, at least I don't).
  • So the people who documented everything already have it all huh? Release the info and let the price gouging begin baby.
