How rare is this game?

I picked this up for an amazing price.  I like to hold on to truly rare games.  I heard there were only 1500 of these made, but I don't know for sure.  I sort of want to sell to make some money, but I don't know.  What do you all think?

  • Is the game fun?
  • I just fired it up. it is ok. it is a sidescrolling beat'em up
  • I'm not sure how much I believe the 1500 number. Granted it's well known that this is a pricey 32X game so that might bring more to light than other less popularized games.

WHAT THE FUCK I just looked on ebay and there's 2 CIBs that are going for more than $500 right now. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. I should've bought this when it was $200 last year. 32x set out of the question now. I'm done. Congrats on the find. Hold onto it. who knows what it'll be in a year.
  • $200 for a cart only wtf. holy shit I hate life
  • I don't understand why the prices have jumped like they have,.I am glad I finished my 32x set last.year. Blackthorn is another which has taken off.

I would imagine its because a greater number of people are pursuing a fullset. When that happens, actual rarity begins to matter and people will pay whatever it takes to get the last game or two for their set. It's probably more dramatic for the 32X because there are so few games in the set.  I think there is one game in the Virtual Boy set that is similar.
  • I don't beliebe the 1500 number at all. It is a harder to find game, but i doubt it's that rare. I've seen game play and it doesn't look that good at all. The only reason to hold on is thinking the price will go up.
  • Hmm. yeah, good point. I sold Star Fox Super weekend comp cart last year for $450 and now you can get up to $700 for it. I don't know. I will probably hold on to it
  • I wouldn't call it rare at all. Just one of those games that got hyped for whatever reason.

At least Blackthorne is fun. Wish I could find a manual for my copy.
  • That 1500 production number is definitely off. No company would ever think of doing a run of only 1500 games. Especially for one of the top 10 comicbook characters of all time. The game is just hyped up as the "rarest" 32x game is all. The game sucks by the way. I enjoyed it for maybe 5 minutes until my ears started to bleed from the terrible music.

Well, SNK might, which is probably why they fell apart.

  • This was the last game I picked up for my set. Blackthorn being the 2nd to last. I think you guys are right that the price jump is mainly from people trying to finish off sets.
  • Gotta be the reason for the price hike. It seems like this game has doubled in price over night. Glad I got mine a couple months ago.
  • I wonder what my factory sealed copy will sell for now...

you've said multiple times you're selling out, but i don't see anything for sale.

With the amount of crap I have it takes a long time to get everything organized and ready to go. Particularly when it comes to deciding what to keep. When it's ready to go, it'll be hard to miss. Though if anyone knows something I have that they want, they're more than welcome to throw out an offer. I've just had other priorities as of late... BUT one good thing of note. I think I've decided on my new hobby - cooking.

Nothing will ever be like earthbound.   Last time I looked, which was several months ago, there were around 40 listings for earthbound on eBay.  Yet it was still selling for ~$200.  Makes absolutely no sense.

Spider-Man isn't a game that pops up on eBay everyday, but you certainly don't have to wait years or even months to be able to purchase a copy.  People just think each system has to have a list of "rare" games and this is the title singled out for the 32x.

I oddly enough believe I have an extra manual for Blackthorn, if I remember right when I got my copy of knuckles for the 32x I had the knuckles manual and a Blackthorn manual. I can look when I get home, I unfortunately had a fire at my house this morning and the basement were I had a lot of extras had about half an inch of water. The fire wasn't bad, just the garage door, surrounding frame and a little of the roof. Everybody is safe which was the important part. Let me know if you would be interested.
  • What is going on with this game? (Spiderman). The last CIB copy sold for $260 in February. There are now two auctions about to end, and each is over FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS.

and one person is asking ~$800.

Was it in the news recently or something? Makes me glad I bought it for $100 about five years ago...
  • The $800 one is being sold by Goodwill too. Hilarious!

What a bunch of money hungry assholes! I refuse to give my stuff to Goodwill. I go to smaller privately owned thirft shops and donate my stuff now.

  • People are intentionally inflating the price. Honestly, it's not THAT rare.
  • I got mine web of fire game last year for 250$ CIB. It wasn't too long I check how much this game is worth out curiosity and saw the cart going for around 250$. It amaze me how much of a demand this game has gone.

It's not bad. The gameplay works and it's enjoyable enough. Considering how late it came out in the system's life though, you would expect better. The graphics aren't much better than what you would get on a typical Genesis cart, nor is the sound. The gameplay feels decent though. I liked the swinging functionality and the combat seemed fine, albeit basic. The game moves at a brisk pace. Obviously not worth the price it goes for, but if it was a $15 - $20 game, I'd say it would be worth trying out.
  • Why do all the games I remember seeing in the store back in the day and wanting so badly now end up being rare and $$expensive$$? It would be ironic since even if I bought the game at my EB Games, it would have been traded in for a $1 at FuncoLand when my bro and I upgraded for the PSX.
