Replacing original GBA (AGB-001) LCD with GBA SP (AGS-001 or AGS-101) LCD

I was looking to replace the LCD screen of an original GBA and was wondering if the GBA SP model LCDs are compatible. If so, is it a simple swap or are more advanced techniques required such as soldering and de-soldering parts?

It's not a straight up swap, unfortunately.

However, a fellow in China created a little adapter that will allow you to do this.

Ouch! $65! I was trying to avoid paying $17 or $20-some for LCDs I've seen elsewhere on the net. The GBA SP screens are more readily available and cheaper. I guess I'll have to find a really beat up GBA for $5.
