What Genesis games should I buy?

Just got into collecting for the genesis recently, and would like your guys input as to what games I should acquire. I'm into playing anything really. I already have the sonic games and rocket knight adventures. Thanks.

  • Heres a list of some games worth checking out:

And of course the common games like all the sonic titles, the golden axe titles, Streets of Rage titles
  • Castlevania Bloodlines is a good Castlevania game ,and good game overall !
  • Castlevania Bloodlines, Contra Hardcorps, Streets of Rage 2, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & K...
  • Boogerman (Just because it's my fave), Toe Jam & Earl, Battletoads, in addition to the games listed above...
  • The links to the other threads are much appreciated.
  • Alisia Dragoon, Aladdin, General Choas, Sunset Riders. Many many titles. I prefer Genesis over SNES anyday, any night.
  • In my top 5 on the Genesis for sure:

  • If I were starting out, I'd probably head for the compilations like 6-pak, triple score, the other side of the pond's Mega Games 3-in-1 series, etc.

Just to get a lot of play with few carts, so I could be playing a bunch of games and not feel deprived while sneakily watching out for those fluke auctions.
  • Rock n Roll Racing is pretty neat. It all depends on what is your poison really. RPG, sports, action, platform.
  • If I were starting from scratch (and could take advice from my current self), I'd buy the 6-Pak, Jewel Master, Landstalker and/or Light Crusader, and a couple Renovation games -- probably Gain Ground and Granada. Throw in Faery Tale Adventure and Shining in the Darkness too if you like RPGs, and Golden Axe 2 and Soldiers of Fortune if you like co-op play. Those are all games that are relatively cheap and have given me that "I'm really glad I bought this" feeling.

What's also interesting, to me, are the games that I thought I "should" own when I started collecting, but which I've felt no real urge to play. The Strike series, the Vectorman games, Jurassic Park, Gunstar Heroes...all have mostly sat on my shelf. No doubt I'll change my mind on some of those with time, but in general I've been more drawn to the offbeat titles, especially Renovation games which are almost always on my wavelength (well, the Wolf Team-developed ones, anyway).
  • Gunstar heros! Its my favorate game on the console! Very fast paced like mega man mixed with contra!
  • Here's a few, not a complete list by any means tho.

    Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles

    Dynamite Headdy

Castlevania Bloodlines ( better than Super Castlevania 4 !!!)

    Ristar

    Alisia Dragoon

    Vectorman 1 and 2

    Contra: Hard Corps

    Gunstar Heroes

    Dangerous Seed

    Musha

    Greylancer

    Splatterhouse 2 & 3

Streets of Rage 1, 2, & 3 (you may want to substitute the third one for the import, Bare Knuckle III)

    Cadash

Mickey Mouse: Castle of Illusion ( and World of Illusion too, although it's not as good)

    Quackshot

    Alien Soldier

    Comix Zone

    Earthworm Jim 1 and 2

    Ecco the Dolphin

Ecco: Tides of Time (try this even if you don't like the 1st one, the first game can be a bit tougher, this one is a bit more reasonable)

Golden Axe 1 and 2 (I've yet to play through 3, but heard it's okay)

    James Pond II

    Landstalker

    Crusader of Centy

    Phantasy Star II, IV

Shining Force II (the first one is pretty simple, worth picking up too though)

    Shadowrun

    Beyond Oasis

    Ys III

    Pirates Gold

    Revenge of Shinobi

Shadow Dancer (for Damin Mance, im not a huge fan tho)

    Shinobi III

    Mega Bomberman

    Michael Jackson's Moonwalker

    Out of This World

    Rocket Knight Adventures

    Sparkster

    Twinkle Tale

Panorama Cotton (if you like Space Harrier)

  • Contra Hard Corps is my favorite genesis game. Some other good ones are Bonanza Brothers, Dragon's Fury, Toki.
