Sega Nomad Freezes?

Hey all, I have a Sega nomad, and I noticed when playing, if i move the system a bit while playing, and the cart moves a lil, the system will lock up. Is this common on all nomads? or should I clean/refurb the connector? I've used the nomal system cleaner sega put out for thier genesis systems and no real improvement.

Thanks everyone!

  • It shouldn't be THAT easy...I've been able to play mine just fine on most car rides. If I hit a big pothole maybe it locks up, but it's nothing a normal Genesis would do. Are your cartridges rather loose in the slot? If they can rattle easily I'm sure that won't help the problem any.
  • I'll give my contacts a deep clean and try again, I only really noticed the issue years ago when on the school bus and a pot hole hit, since then I've ben nervous to move it during game play. but I think I'll clean the pins, maybe use a small hook to pull the pins out slightly to make a more solid connection when a game goes in
  • Yeah...unfortunately the connection on the Nomad is no more resiliant than the connectors on the system. If you shake a Genesis while it's playing it'll likely lock up and the same goes for the nomad. Now the SupaBoy added a little resistance switch that helped keep the cart more firmly in place, but you'd need some decent mods to the nomad case to allow for something like that and even then it wouldn't be foolproof.
  • Ok tried mine last night, Loaded up some Ys III, and while playing I gently tapped the cart. and freeze... So I'm cleaning the heck out of the pins now, if that don't help, ill get a very small tool, like a pic or a flat screwdrive and gently pry each connector pin out slightly to make a firmer grip on the carts.

I LOVED my SupaBoy, until it died on me
  • Okay. just did a deep, deep, deep cleaning and a soak of the pins. (pretty much took a sega cleaning kit, that had a felt like slot cleaner, i soaked it in alcohol, then put it in the system and let it sit for like 5 min (no power attached of course) then i re-applied alcohol to the cleaner again and inserted and removed the cleaning cart for several minutes, after wich the connectors shined like diamonds, threw in my Copy of Moonwalker, and tapped the cart, didn't freeze, jiggled the system, no freeze, grabbed the cart and rocked it back and forth with some rapid fire speed, no freeze! wooo!!!! It's amazing what a $1 bottle of Alcohol can fix ^-^ and still have 99.9% of the liquid left over
