Please lock: boxed Zotac Geforce GTX 580 1536MB (may need cleaning or repair), with Prince of Persia

I'm planning a computer upgrade. Good time to replace this card.

Recently began showing artifacts very likely related to dust.

Opening the enclosed cooler design takes 7 philips screws (I looked inside but lack tools to clean out its fan correct).

Be aware it's large and power hungry. Specs recommend minimum 600W PSU.

$100 start bid.

Located USA.

Paypal OK, other options considered.

DOA returns available.

Ended July 1st @ 10pm NA time.

  • I really hate to be that guy, and I don't believe whatsoever that you'd intentionally sell someone a bad card (otherwise you wouldn't describe it so accurately to begin with), but :

Artifacts like that can very often be due to faulty/failing memory chips. After all, it's easy to blow the dust out and verify that it's not overheating as much, thereby not artifacting, which would indicate that the card is undamaged. The 580s were a good bit cooler running than the 480s, but they still were fairly toasty cards compared to Kepler gen stuff.

Anyway, long story short, it would be advisable to clean the card, re-test it (Furmark, maybe an hour or two run in something like Tomb Raider 2013, etc), and then you can either sell it as a known good card, or know that it might need a downclock to be stable. Even at $100, if the card is starting to go south, that's a fairly big risk to take. I've had cards that I had to undervolt and underclock just to not fail, even after taking the garbage stock TIM/paste off, lapping surfaces, etc.

I hope it's good! Best of luck
  • Maybe. Could try it when my upgrade parts arrive. Not sure I want to insert a video card in a computer due to overhaul in days.
