Hiw difficult would it be to do possibly backwards repros?

I was thinking, the gba saw a lot of rereleases that also added new elements/better translations of some amazing SNES games. Would it be possible to convert a gba Rom to SNES Rom format and create a repro cart based on that? Could the same be done for other gba takes that weren't SNES games? Like say, golden sun, or the metroidvania games? Could it be done with GBC/gb games to make SNES repro/nes repro carts? Just curious.
I know these things could all be homebrewed, and it's probably already easy to find repros of Ff2 and Ff3 with their better translations, but what of the others? Would it have to be.from scratch, or are the languages similar enough they would just be minor.modifications?

  • I've seen double posts before, but now double thread posts? SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE MATRIX!!

  • It is not possible to 'convert' GBA ROM to SNES or NES, or GB/GBC ROM to SNES or NES. There are ways to make a version of a game from one platform for another, they are described as 'porting' and involve making the same game almost entirely from scratch.
  • Unless you have the source code it would be rewriting the whole game from nothing.
  • Thanks for he info guys. I have next to zero programming knowledge, so I was just wondering if any if this was possible. I have always wanted to learn, but time is never on my side
  • For the most part, just assume games between different systems are completely incompatible with each other. The exceptions are far rarer than that rule I just made.

And in case you don't know what repros are, they are basically just newly made carts (either using new or old parts) of ROMs for whatever system it is for. GBA repros are not commonly made because of the initial costs required to have a print run made. They can't be individually produced like older systems.
  • Nope... I wish it was possible, but (especially for the older systems) it's simply a pipe dream.
  • The closest thing i've seen to this being done is people updating SNES ROMs with some improvements from their GBA versions. Otherwise, Nah.
  • I don't why these threads come up lol. The answer is simply "no", unless you have valid source code which you could manipulate on the SNES, etc. or you are a solid hacker when it comes to the processors that the SNES, etc. uses.
