For Sonic the Hedgehog game gear.. Was there a color manual?

I tried looking here so apologies if this was asked. i got a copy of Sonic 2 new and it has a black/white manual which is unfortunate as I always go for the color versions. With that said, I have not ever seen a normal color manual for Sonic 1, does one exist? Is there a site that has a list of the variants so I know what is possible and what isn't?

  • Sonic 2 had a Majesco reprint, but I think they used old stock so the carts are original while the boxes and manuals are not because they needed to be reprinted with a small Majesco text on the back (just my observation). Check the back of the box and the manual and see if it says Majesco on it and you'll know for sure. Colour manuals exist for Sonic 2 but they need to be for original print runs. They're easy to find.

I don't believe there is a glossy colour version of the Sonic 1 manual. I have never seen one at least.
  • Damn these majesco reprints! Driving me nuts, so they didn't do a majesco reprint for Sonic 1?
  • Sonic 1 definitely did not get a reprint.
  • Actually we have the variants listed here. Sonic 1 did get a 2nd or reprint run. However it was not by Majesco on sonic 1. It was to add the rating system info on the front of the box where-as the original run did not have that on the box front.
  • I meant it did not get a Majesco reprint, haha. Braveheart, are you able to confirm if the original run or the rating system reprint came with glossy or plain paper manuals? I'm pretty sure the answer is they came plain paper only, which is actually sort of strange because many of the 1991-1994 games came with very nice glossy manuals and it seems kind of dumb for Sega to have cheaped out on the first run of their first Sonic game for a handheld system they were trying to promote, right?
