SEGA GAME GEAR REFURBISHING SERVICES!
Hey everyone,
about a week back I had a poll to see if anyone would be intrested in a Game Gear Refurbishing system.
Looks like a decent amount of people would love this! ( http://segaage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=42&threadid=94319) so here I go!!
I'll charge $35 for the cleaning and cap replacements. I do get nervous with the LCD behind the lens, since its very easy to leave behind faint scratches, I'll use canned air to blow the loose dust off, but I will not touch it with my fingers or a cloth, even a microfiber cloth I see leave faint scratches behind, so to not risk scratching the screen I'll just air blow the dust off and won't physically wipe it.
The $35 will include the system cleaning, the caps, the labor to replace the caps, and the button/contact cleaning. and if desired, also I'll give the housing a good cleaning as well! Aslo if your LCD has some dead lines I'll attempt to fix this as well. If the dead lines are caused by a bad ribbon calbe connection I'll be able to solve this. If the LCD is just gone bad nad has a dead line I won't be able to repair this.
Bad capacitors are the leading cause in Game Gears for the following issues, no power, no sound, hard to see screens, and no display
I can replace the lense with a new one for $15 more.
The only thing I do ask is the person who ships me the game gears pays for the shipping both ways (can either send the units with a pre-paid label or just add the shipping costs into the payment)
Send me a PM if your intrested! ^-^
I'll do my best to have the Game Gear reapired and packed up to ship within the same day I receive the unit!
THANKS EVERYONE!!!
~John
(services I may offer in the future, would include DSi Backlight replacement, External Battery repair, and possibly custom paint jobs)

The screen will turn on but the games don't read. I am using a AC adapter and when I turn it on the screen lights up a blueish white light. I know there is no sound from before.
Can you save her doc?
I don't have a box yet but I want to play around with the online shipping calculator first for a bit and see what's the best way to ship the system.
Thanks man!

By hard to see, do you mean what appears to be constant slowdown, or is that just typical of the GG? I have two systems, both the black and the blue sports version (or whatever its called), and they both suffer from this. I would freaking LOVE to be able to play my GG again!
(That dude... he's got some serious shit COVERED!!! that's all I have to say about that!)
I'm really dumb at soldering still, so for the shake-shake-shake señoras and paranoid schizophrenics the world over, this seems like a good deal. Especially with the sense of paranoia I am detecting in regard to not ruining anyting while doing the best jerb possible.
We appreciate the offer you have extended to us good sir!
If I still had a game gear (I actually ditched mine years and years ago because it started sucking balls) this would be just what the doctor ordered given my current "pathetic acolyte" status on the tech-tronic 'lektronixx skillz.

Pretty much if the screen has to be held at a unnatural angle to see. for example, mine had to be held at a 45 degree angle just to see the images the screen was attemtping to show me. The contrast button didn't help much
As far as the slowdown's go, I'm not 100% sure I understand what you mean, could you explain a little more? IT ma just be the nature of the game gear beast

Just out of curiosity are you using the pimp little capacitor kits from Starwander?

I am not, but my curosity has been peeked, I'll have to see what it is ^-^
I'm contemplating whether I should try to get it repaired or just get another used one (this one was a Christmas gift many years ago and I hate parting with any gift that's gaming related), but wasn't sure if you repaired/refurbished systems where someone's already tried (ie. the original caps aren't there and I already tried to repair them). I'm just not sure if I soldered them in incorrectly or my soldering skills just suck. Thanks.
