Has the GameCube been getting more respect the past few years?
I'll never forget Christmas 2001, when some of my relatives gave me some cash for Christmas Eve knowning that I needed it for what I really wanted for Christmas that year...a shiny new Indigo GameCube with Luigi's Mansion and a little later Super Smash Bros Melee (I think I also got the first MegaMan Battle Network game that year or next I don't remember). I was quite excited and I even remember on GameFAQs saying "screw the Hype-Box, forget the PS2, the NINTENDO GAMECUBE is ULTIMATE 128-bit system! " Yeah I must've sounded quite silly but still...
Then next Christmas my Uncle Jerry (RIP) even got me new copies of Metroid Prime and Super Mario Sunshine (still have Melee and Prime, hoping to get Luigi and Mario back some point soon). Then in 2003, right before I graduated from UK, I was also the proud owner of Zelda Wind Waker (with the bonus pre-order disc of course) and the greatest accesory in NIntendo history, the Game Boy Player!! The GameCube was the very first console I ever bought by myself right at launch date (I also got a new PSOne right around that time, it was my first non-Nintendo console and I needed it to play the MegaMan games; I was so blown away at the idea of video games having cartoon cutscenes and voice acting; the Legends voice acting was incredible and MM8/X4, well...I guess Dr. Fudd from MM8 was pretty funny).
So now it's been about 12 years since both the GameCube and Game Boy Advance were released, and I believe about six years or so since both systems were retired (no more new games made for them I mean). While I will ALWAYS be a NES/SNES collector first (seeing as how I got my first NES for my 10th b-day in 1990 and the SNES for Christmas 1994), I've lately started to also become nostagic for GC/GBA stuff, I guess seeing as how I was in college when both consoles were in their prime. The thing is though, I also remember the sheer LACK or respect the GameCube received when it was an active console...my local Wal-Mart and GameSuck had a TERRIBLE selection (but thankfully EB Games got my business because they at least tried to show Nintendo some love), and the gaming media at the time often ridiculed it as being a "kiddie console with the funny handle". I guess just like how in my middle school days I dreamed more than anything of having a SNES when at the time it seemed Genesis was the "cooler" console, I felt the same way about GameCube even though it was obvious the gaming media favored the PS2/Xbox more.
And what do my GameCube/Game Boy Advance collections look like now? Well, both are rather small for now but I think I got plenty of blue chips covered already:
GAME BOY ADVANCE:
Casears Palace
Chessmaster
Game & Watch Gallery 4
Golden Nugget
Mario Kart Super Circut
Mario Golf Toadstool Tour
ALL MegaMan games
Both Metroid games
Monopoly
Namco Museum
Sonic Advance 1-3
Super Monkey Ball Jr
Wario Ware
Zelda Minish Cap
WISHLIST: Mario Tennis Advance, Mario Advance 1-4 (I used to have 1-2 years ago; Mario's voice is quite cute in those games ), F-Zero Maxium Velocity, and who knows I might give the DKC Trilogy on the GBA a chance (I still think the SNES versions looked/sounded a LOT better though).
GAMECUBE:
1080 Avalanche
Animal Crossing
F-Zero GX
Luigi's Mansion
Mario Kart Double Dash
Mario Golf Toadstool Tour
MegaMan Network Transmission
Metroid Prime 1-2
Namco Museum
Sonic Adventure DX
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
Sonic Gems Collection
Sonic Mega Collection
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Monkey Ball 1-2
Super Smash Bros Melee
Wave Race Blue Storm
ALL Zelda games except Twilight Princess (have the Wii version but maybe i should get the GC version too someday?)
WISHLIST: Mario Tennis, Zelda Twilight Princess, Wario World, maybe one of the All-Star Baseball games?
So is anyone else here have a renewed interest in GBA/GC collecting? In fact, isn't there one person on here who managed to get a complete set of all 'Cube games?

I guess I feel just the opposite. The GBA was my first ever handheld gaming system (naturally my first game for it was Zelda Link's Awakening DX). I guess seeing as how the GBA games are similar to SNES/32X style graphics and such and seeing as how I grew up in the late NES and SNES eras well, you do the math.
my first console of that gen was Xbox but i traded it for a gamecube soon after
i use to LOVE the game Time Splitters 2, that was probably my favorite game
Time Splitters 2
F Zero GX
Metroid Prime
would be the 3 most memorable
i remember playing metroid prime for the first time, the graphics blew me away i was in love with how the game looked besides being a fun great game
i LOVED the gba, ive always really been big into handhelds, the original gameboy was my first video game experience

i picked up a few, they had low stock most places though
fast forward to now
wind wakers 45$
Melee is 40$
mario sunshine is 35$...

Don't get me wrong, I like portable gaming, I'm currently playing Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime and loving it. I just grew up on consoles and prefer the big screen and big games over smaller portable ones. The SP was my first portable console I owned, still have it.
I never will like nor understand the sustained hatred and fanboy bullshit strikes Nintendo gets. I didn't get even why it existed until I worked at Midway and had a supervisor when I asked if they knew what the deal was the slam campaign which only infuriated me further. I always had a kind of mature smartness about how much the media was full of shit going back as far as the canned made up shit CNN would do during the '92 elections and that distrust quickly went into gaming. I'd hear how this game was inferior, this system was crap or wouldn't do X. I'd end up owning that system (ie: SNES, N64, GC) and I'd have games right in front of me doing better than the comparison or doing a feature it was deemed impossible to do. You quickly get smart and jaded to the lies of fanboys parading as paid media and reviewers.
Gamecube really was depending how you looked at it the most powerful or just a little under in 2nd most powerful system of the era, and the only holding back problems were the -1 GC pad button and the smaller 1.5GB discs. Those willing to work around that gave gold, those who wanted to continue shoveling bs and bitch behavior from the N64/PS1 era did so, and it's clear to see which developers were childish and those with legit reasons seeing what made it and not. Some games that were cross ported to all 3 came out best on the GC such as Beyond Good and Evil and some of those Ubisoft titles like the Prince of Persia game too. The developers would even come out and say so, but the media would call them worse, then ding 1-2full points for not keeping up with xbox live and having paid online modes. It was stupid, it was lies and manipulation, but when you got down to it the Gamecube had a wide and fun selection of titles, nicer than the Wii or N64 ever had (and given the unique trash going on with no supporting the system out of the gate like any others ever had) potentially WiiU too.
I could flash a list of stuff, but if you follow my sig to the Gamecube area I got a nice hand picked selection of great titles I've kept or bought back that aged with grace and maintain their fun value so maybe you can find something there you missed out on.
Zelda: Wind Waker
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Mario Party 6
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2
Resident Evil Zero
Resident Evil
Sonic Advendture 2 Battle
Star Wars Rouge Leader (the game that sold me on the system)
Super Monkey Ball
Super Monkey Ball 2
Super Smash Bros. Melee
It's one of the only things that survived my entire-video-game-collection-purge from about 6 years ago because I couldn't find the cube and the games (wish I could say the same about my DreamCast collection).
I've been slowing picking up more things up for the GameCube.
I recently picked up a Game Boy Player for the GameCube which takes portable games and gives you the console experience. I also got the link cable so that I can use the GBA as the controller.

Well even though I have a GC-ready Wii, I still have a 'Cube with Game Boy Player hooked up just for that purpose. Ideally I'd like to be able to play GameGear ganes (the real ones, not just roms on a flashcart) and DS games on the TV too!
And isn't it true that the GC can do graphics and such every bit as well as the Xbox? I mean seriously, Metroid Prime came out only a year after the 'Cube, Wind Waker came out a year later (which I think pushes the GC even harder than Twilight Princess, or is it just me?) and of course there's Twilight Princess. If you allow the 'Cube to use multiple discs (which everyone seemed to LOVE that idea when it was PS1 Final Fantasy games), it can totally handle Xbox level graphics just as well right? I will admit, as much as I dismissed the Xbox's hard drive gimmick, I can now see how it can come in handy for sports game fans at least (as they eat memory card blocks up like cookies).
It brought us the Pikmin, Animal Crossing & Luigi's Mansion IP's.
It brought us the revival of the Metroid, StarFox & F-Zero IP's.
It brought us the "Toony" Zelda series with Wind Waker.
It brought us Mario Sunshine, fantastic Mario Sports series, fun Mario Party's and such.
It brought us some interesting Pokemon games.
...
And that was just on Nintendo's end. Third party support wasn't "strong" but it wasn't bad either. Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Viewtiful Joe, Final Fantasy: Crystal, Phantasy Star Online, Prince of Persia, Soul Calibur, Baten Kaitos.....list goes on and on.

Both the GBA and gamecube actually have good games for them. I feel like what held the gamecube back the most back in the day was that PS2 and Xbox both had online multiplayer.
I wouldn't say the multiplayer so much as the disc space. The gamecube is obviously inferior and can't hold as much, so they lost out to a chunk of third party support the same way the n64 did, but obviously not to the extent of the N64.
The neat thing about the Cube it was the last system that got a truly honest and solid effort by still a fair many of the third parties and the efforts were solid and appreciated. You could own a GC and if you weren't one of those me-too fanboys or overly peer pressured by friends into must being on xblive or droning along with Squaresoft or Rockstar Games you really were set. It wouldn't be hard at all to get a 100 game library of solid games and for many even 50 is a bit overkill. Good luck finding 50 games if that on Wii where the games were solid A or high B efforts from third parties (and in some annoying cases, even Nintendo as a publisher.)
Another thing I've been thinking of lately just to toss it out there. If you look at 2D vs 3D generations, the Gamecube era really was the equal to the NES of the time. Lots of support, good visuals but still kind of plane/wooden compared to the WiiU/PS3 era which would be the 3D times SNES. You probably wonder what the N64/PS1 is right? Pre-83 crash gaming on the 3D level, you got to really be a fan as most of it looks and sounds like crap, and some stuff is in such infancy only the next generation gave it enough time to get stuff fairly right.
I never owned a non-Nintendo machine until the PS3 was released. Owned every console (except VB) and handheld since the NES and original Game Boy =D
GC received a lot of hate when it was current but no matter what anyone says, it's a solid machine with lots of killer titles for it.
Here's an image of every game I own [Missing Luigi's Mansion in the picture, must have left it behind =(]:
Not a huge collection by any means but I think it's a nice collection either way.
If there's any gems I'm missing please let me know. Haven't purchased a GC game since the console was current. Seeing this thread made me realize that some games might spike in price soon. I'll pick them up at my local thrift stores for peanuts while I can

Hey you're doing better than I am! Okay I do have 200 or so NES games but even that is not even 1/3 of the lineup.
I feel that as long as you can play and enjoy the games you own, the size of your collection is irrelevant

The GameCube simply wasn't ready for multiplayer...and I don't think even PS2/Xbox online multiplayer really caught on till what, around 2005 or so, when the Wii was almost ready besides?
I'm not going to take a pic, would be easy enough from the bindings, but this is what I have currently for variety on the system and it's not bad. 28 games in all, love to make 29 and 30 the JP Hudson remake imports of Bonk and Adv. Island. I feel what have below could keep a normal person busy for years.
- Chibi Robo
- Cubivore
- Custom Robo
- Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix (Complete)
- Defender
- Doshin the Giant (PAL)
- Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
- F-Zero GX
- Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
- Ikaruga
- (The) Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
- (The) Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time / Master Quest
- (The) Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
- Luigi's Mansion
- Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
- Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
- Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
- Pikmin 2
- Resident Evil 4 Gamestop Special Edition Steelbook (#08088 of 48000)
- Skies of Arcadia Legends
- Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut
- Star Fox Assault
- Star Soldier: Hudson Selection Vol. 2 (JPN)
- Star Wars Rogue Squadron: Rogue Leader
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Super Smash Bros. Melee
- Tales of Symphonia
- Wave Race Blue Storm
Those are some great titles Tanooki! You're right about the time needed to get through all those games. As someone had mentioned, the GC really holds up well in current times compared to the PS1/N64 as an example. IMO it's worth it to buy a GC just to play Wind Waker and Mario Sunshine.
