i would leave sonic cart as lower than 5. it is VERY easy to get. Manual + box is harder even without the sticker but only because you normally need to get it from someone in Europe but it still seems fairly common, least for over there.
Sonic for the SMS isnt as easy to get as you would think. VG PC doesnt even have a listing on it at the moment. Ebay has 3 listings worldwide, Amazon doesnt even have one. Half.com is out of stock. That to me doesnt say easy to get. Sonic on the Genesis is easy to get.
Golden axe warrior is also on the list. http://segaage.com/index.cfm?FuseAction=Search.SMS is the entire list. The ones that I did are the ones that are missing entries or entries that needed a slight adjustment.

I don't see how we can reliably determine rarity of genuine US copies unless sealed with UPC sticker.
The cart, box, and manual are deemed identical to Europe.
Anyone can import them and write a false advertisement claiming "US" origin.
Even an opened UPC copy may have had its contents replaced with PAL.
UPC symbol is worthless and not considered. And master system games were not normally sealed even when new other than a "SEGA" sticker across the side of the clamshell box.
the sonic game is identical in all ways to the Euro version other than the UPC sticker, there is no difference. this isn't about a single game though, this is about getting the rarity at least identified and placed into the list instead of just shows question marks.
I sort of think Power Strike should be higher. There aren't a lot of copies around for sale, at least CIBs and it was a fairly limited things since it was mail order only. It is definitly a fairly hard one to come by and not that price matters but is up there as one of the more expensive games as well. Like the 70-90 dollars range for CIB.
Shangai should honestly be a 1 across the board. So easy to find. it is one of those games that is pretty much given away. Hell I found my copy CIB, near mint at a local game store and it cost me 3 bucks.
I added to raise Power Strike to 6s but I could go higher to 7s. I definitely agreed that it needed to be raised but I didnt think it was as rare as Buster Douglas. There are a half dozen or so copies on Ebay at any given time.
As far as Shanghai, I could lower it a bit as well. The only games I figured would be in the 1 category are the Great sports games cause its almost impossible to not find them in any sort of retro store that sells SMS games or online.
If you want to add the * name on the list for having the Sonic UPC, by all means, post it up here : http://segaage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=42&threadid=108761. As far as its "rarity" I dont feel it counts as any sort of significance on this list and as such, am leaving it (and the other 3 UPC games) off.
I think keep thinking on CIB when it comes to rarity so I see what you mean now. Power strike does have more listings if it is just cart or cart + box. so maybe that needs a high value for the manual than the game or box.
Yeah I adjusted the box and manual. Plus there is an actual difference between the US version manual/box and the Euro version so you cant just piece them together like you can just the game.
I know. Was just saying that there are more copies of Power strike available in the UK regions and with almost every other SMS game, you can piece them together from overseas sellers most of the time for cheaper than buying them here in the states. With Power strike, however, the box and manual are absolutely different with the regions.
Super Monaco GP seems really low. That's been on my list for over a year now and usually sells for over $40. There's typically one CIB on eBay at any given time but never very many.
Sports Pad Football is another one that seems like it's harder to find complete. I think it's a $20+ CIB but it doesnt seem to pop up that often. I see it CB and cart only often enough but it's a little tricky to find complete for a good price.
I was just looking at Monaco yesterday and it is difficult to find, I think spider man may need an upgrade also. Maybe a bump for king's quest manual also. All I ever find is either cart or cart+box.
Sport pad football is hit or miss though the number of listings for CIB has been dropped steadily over the last 2 months or so. So mad that I copy I got I ended up being swindled over by the seller why didn't make enough money on it....I sit here with an case for the game.
Im all for discussion on these. When I came up with my numbers, I used how many copies of the game/case/instructions were on Ebay and Amazon at the time (over a span of about a week) as well as the rarity rating of the game on Sega8bit.com. I also tend to take a worldly look instead of just a US look and some games that may be harder to find in the US doesnt mean its hard to find if you are willing to wait an extra week or so to be shipped from European countries.
In any case, I dont mind adjusting any of them. I just want to see *something* in the system rather than a bunch of ????? for their rarity.
sadly that is why the collection list is flawed if it can't have the rarities based on the region of the game in your list. Really need to get back to working on my personal database.
It kind of plays into this system though. Take Castle of illusion for example. Its ranked almost as rare as James Buster Douglas according to the forum here yet you can find dozens of copies sent to your house from European countries for basically $20 shipped.
Thats the main reason I wanted the collection list to be more encompassing.
The problem is you're creating a rarity list for US games based on the availability of European games as well. SM GP isn't a 2 at all. There was one US copy sold per month going back to April or whatever. About the rarity of the US version of Power Strike so it got bumped to a 6.
Portable systems outside of the 3DS are all region free, if I'm not mistaken, but none of them merge all the geographic regions together.

That's just a symptom. Not much we can do with the games too similar.
Yeah 3DS brought region lock to mainstream attention.
Nintendo had toyed with the basic idea since at least 1994, Space Invaders had NTSC or PAL locked Super Game Boy content.
maybe I am misunderstanding something but by thing is, the list gives you regions for each game, noted by a flag. So shouldn't each regions title get its own rarity? At least in my mind when I think of the lists as a database of stuff, it should be that way.
Is the problem that it isn't like that? it is one rarity per unique title?
Sure there is a supposed to be a difference ... but look at it the way I am. How exactly rare can a game be when I can find 2 dozen+ complete copies on Ebay at any one given time for under $30? Just cause I didnt get it from a US seller doesnt really make any difference in my eyes. Regardless, the list has been completed and this arguement is null anyhow.
the seller's region doesn't matter, it is the game's region that matters. same game but they are different that is where I'm going.
this is a random made up example but if Monaco GP, the USA version of it, is hard to get and the euro version isn't, regardless of where/who you buy it from. the list's USA region coded version of it should have a different rarity than the Euro zone version of it.
Now if you finding 100 copies of the US release of it over in europe and 5 copies of it in the usa at any given time, then yes, the rarity should adjust.
Again, it isn't about where you buy it, it is about how many of copies of game X from region Y there are out there for sale.
Gamess
like Sonic are sort of the exception because other than the stupid sticker, it is the same game, box art, manual.
