Canada-only version of Sonic 1

I happened to hit up a garage sale today and I found this there. Despite living in Canada for a very long time I had never encountered a Sonic 1 cart like this, but a quick internet search showed me its a version exclusive to Canada. Honestly, I thought it was a bootleg when I saw it, and the condition isn't great either (the sellers wrote the price write on the label), but for a buck the price is right.



Does anyone know more about it? Is it a harder to find version or desirable? I've included a photo of the one I found.

    As far as Candian variants go this one is probably the easiest one to find. You have the NFR version there which is slightly less common, in comparison to the US version these are much less common and I think I would value a nice CIB at $12--$15. No reason to search the web, plenty of info right here on our wonderful variant thread http://segaage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=42&threadid=56182

    I see. I was just surprised since I have never seen one like this before, despite dozens (hundreds?) of the regular carts I've seen. After all most Canadian versions of games across all systems look pretty much identical except for the addition of French text.

    Yes it's split some have the US art and some have the Mega Drive art. The one's like Sonic that share the Mega Drive artwork are easy to spot. A few have very minor diffrences, if you look at the Revenge of Shinobi canadian variant the only diffrence is that it is slightly more zoomed in making it very hard to spot.
