Some GameCube classics and ALL THE PS2 GAMES

1/9

Some nice finds to kick off the new year!

I picked this beautiful lot up off a classified for $30.  They may have some more Wii and GameCube stuff for me, so I'm waiting to hear back.

I've also spent the last couple of days doing a bit of driving -- GameStop just moved Playstation 2 games to 75% off, so everything is dirt cheap and its the last chance to get some of that system's treasures.  I picked up some RPGs and obscure games, and a bunch of odds and ends to fill up my collection.  I spent somewhere in the $500 range (110 of which was trade credit that I had bought from someone at a discount).

  • My goodness, another great storyteller on NA

My favorite is probably the $10 snes bundle with the Starcraft and Zelda.  Clean and a good number.  Great picking day for you, man.
  • finding so much stuff on just one day is quite ridiculous
  • Agreed. I go out with 40 in the morning and have only needed to get more once this year.
  • It's crazy in my area. I had someone give me $400 for almost everything I was selling when I was clearing out my spare stuff at a yard sale. Yesterday that crazy-eyed dude offered $150 for the GameCube/GBC lot. It's pretty cut-throat and people want top dollar for their stuff.

I wish every weekend could be like this. I had some stuff in the back seat already, so when I got home my car was practically full!

And yeah, that $10 bundle was a great start to a great day.
  • Edit: Apparently, I used the Skylanders picture twice by mistake. Fixed the last pic.
  • Crazy to say the least, not sure what area you're in or if this is a one in a year thing or not, but I think a lot of people are going to get a bit green over this. Green being sick(they can't have finds like this), jealous green, or throwing green at you to get some of it. I've lived in two states and neither, ever have been this nice in a month let alone a day.
  • Great find in one day , not even one day. A couple hours? LoL where are you located so I can move there?
  • 7:30 AM 'till 12:30 PM covering a stretch of 25 miles. If I was making stuff up, I'd have Earthbounds and Stadium Games like crazy.
  • It's hit or miss, the gaming gods smiled upon me this weekend. The last time I went out, I think in June, I drove around for 2 hours and got bupkiss.
  • That's pretty awesome finding all that stuff in 5 hours. That's nice finding the Sega Saturn and Master System stuff since it can be uncommon to find stuff for those systems locally.

    BTW, Welcome to the site.
  • Thanks! I think this is my one for the year on the Master System stuff. I still don't think I've seen an actual system, although I used to have the adapter for the Genesis.
  • Great finds. It's awesome to see another collector take garage sales so seriously. I wish I could even find the time during a single weekend to hit up more than a couple sales.
  • Now this is a story I like reading. I like hearing the journey's and adventure's! Nice finds! Congrats!
  • Awesome finds man, and welcome to NA. Thats more finds in one day than i'll get this year in the wild.
  • Thanks! I wish every weekend could be this good.

If this was the one in Port Jefferson, I was there too! Were you the guy I joked with about Shaq-Fu?
  • Yeah, hey, whats up?
  • Heh, that's funny. I kind of figured I'd see that sale posted to at least one of the sites I go to (NA, AtariAge, etc.). It was a total feeding frenzy (not as bad as I'd expected, though), but the guy had great stuff and the prices were insanely low! He and his wife were very nice and easy to work with.

Most of the Nintendo stuff seemed picked-over, but my fiancée found a stash of quality GameCube games (Pikmin, Super Mario Sunshine, etc.) that were mixed in with the DVDs, and there was a lot of Sega and Atari stuff that people didn't seem to be paying much mind (especially the Atari). There was a R7/R8 title out there in plain sight, but because it was a sports game I guess it wasn't on anyone's radar.
  • Awesome man! I enjoyed reading the story as much as enjoyed looking at the games you had found!

    Great finds man! Your awesome!
  • Nice!  That sale was awesome, I wish I had brought a list of things I had/needed because I was just completely overwhelmed.
  • My god, where do you live? I think I'm gonna move there.
  • I usualy go to ~ 20 sales every weekend and i might find one sale with video games stuff.....
  • Found some Wii games tonight! And I might be trying for a cheap Wii U tomorrow.
  • And a huge DS lot!
  • Found some more cool stuff last week!
  • I stopped by a thrift shop while out running errands, and the owner (who is a super nice guy!) tells me he has some new games in! For $30, I picked up:

Vegas Dream and Base Wars are for my collection. I have so many fond memories of Vegas Dream as a kid, its how I learned to play BlackJack. Its also how I learned that BlackJack is probably the best table game at a casino, and if a pixelated lady approaches me while I'm on a hot streak, I should duck out before I get robbed. Base Wars is a cartridge I haven't seen before, Tyson is a spare, and the Wii and GC stuff are also available. I had no idea what that Asylum thing is, but research indicates its from a GameCrazy promo; apparently they had a secret club of some kind.

Does this thing hold any value whatsoever?

Picked this up for $40 yesterday:

Finds 9/10 9/11 by geekquisitions, on Flickr

I got an email from the CL guy I had bought those Wii games from, telling me that he found his old SNES and his games. $40 is great for such a quality mix of games, although the system needs repair. Surprisingly, I didn't have half the games. The grip of collecting has me in its grasp again, because those got cleaned and tested and moved right into my collection. Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Mario Kart are all spares.
  • I kick Friday off out west. I had been talking to someone on CraigsList the night before who had a lot of two 3DSes for sale, with some games, for $140. However, the lady and I had tickets to Wicked Thursday night, so I couldn't pick it up and we made arrangements for me to come by on Friday. It just so happened, my yard sale route took me into their area.

I let Mrs. Geek sleep in while I got out the door bright and early. The first sale I drove by was all kinds of creepy -- loads of Star Trek collector's plates, and not a single person around. I didn't see any gaming stuff, or the sale runner to ask, so I was off to the next sale.

I poked around for a bit and didn't see any gaming stuff. When I asked, though, the dude running the sale poked around in a CD bin, and found a disc-only copy of Kingdom Hearts. I picked it up for a dollar, and as I was leaving, a mass of gray cable caught my eye. I saw the lovely Apple-esque white of a Wii underneath. Another fiver later and the day is already off to a nice start.

Wii console, no wiimotes, and Kingdom Hearts: $6

I hit a few more sales, and nothing. No one has any gaming stuff. Boo! I turn down another street, to head to an unlisted sale, and stop at a sale that's just setting up on the same street - a neighbor taking advantage of the signs and traffic. DOUBLE UNLISTED SALE. No real "gaming" stuff, but they are apparently sick of these little guys who are taking over their entire house and let me take them off their hands for a $10 adoption fee. Then I notice Pikachu, and fork over another buck.

    image

    Skylanders and Pikachu: $11

25 pieces of Skylanders (including bags and portals) @ $10 = $0.40 each

    Running total spent: $17

I found another sale that had some Star Wars figures. I chatted with the sale runners, lamenting how I also had collected them when I was younger and that they're completely worthless now, while the son ran inside to check for games. He accepted $3 for the lot which included a wallet with a bunch of PlayStation Magazine demo discs. The funniest thing ever, though, was this giant meathead guy who showed up and was asking about Darth Maul and Boba Fett stuff, going on about how Maul was his favorite Star Wars character ever. I stifled my giggling until I got back to my car.

PSX sealed games and demo discs: $3

Cost per item for 18 items - $0.17 ea.

    Total for the day: $20

In my favorite CraigsList find in a while, I end my yardsaling day picking these up for $140:

    image

Finds 9/6/2013 by geekquisitions, on Flickr

The best part was that Paper Mario, Sonic, and the second, sealed Angry Birds weren't even discussed beforehand, they were just thrown in as the seller had found them. I would have offered more, but because it was CraigsList, I only brought the exact amount with me out of caution. So, sweet find to cap off my Friday!

    3DS Lot: $140

Cost per item for 10 items: $14

    Total for the day: $160

This was good. But Saturday...oh, Saturday, was so much better.
  • I got a nice lot for $50! I was interested in the SNES stuff at 50 to begin with, but the seller threw in a modded Xbox! And then that came with a bunch of controllers and stuff.

If anyone is interested in it, let me know, I'd be more than happy to part with it for a modest price because those things are big and I don't have room. It has two hard drives, ones with the regular OS and one with the modded OS. I think its set up to run emulators and homebrew and stuff.

I've never seen a grey Maximum Carnage before. I will be adding that Clayfighter TE to my collection, though.

Just one thing though -- these all have white out or something on the back.

Any tips on how to get this stuff off?
