Mega Man IV unexplainable oddity

When I was little, I rented Mega Man IV from Blockbuster Video.  The game had a few odd characteristics with it.  Has anyone else heard of this version.

For instance, the bad guys that were skulls.  Instead of hurting you when you touched them, you could actually ride on top of them.  Pretty cool huh?

The thing that sucked...one of the hidden weapons that you need to find is not there.  I believe it was the balloon.  If anyone knows anything about it...please let me know.

For that is the only version of this game that I remember with these weird oddities in it.  Thanks....That Ghosts and Goblins question sparked this to my memory so I figured I'd ask you guys.

  • The balloon is in Pharaoh Man's stage and the Wire is in Dive Man's stage in out of the way areas.
  • It is probably the wire then.  Anyway, it isn't there.  Anyone heard of this version?  If I remember right the label looked fine (did not have that proto label look).  Maybe a prototype got labeled up by accident?  If anyone has information let me know.  Thanks,

  • Er, what do you mean it's not there?  It's after a drop down with some spikes on both walls.  I think if you revisit you can still pick it up and it takes you out.
  • There are actually 2 versions of MM4, but I think the first version is far more common. And if I remember right, there weren't enough differences between the data to have the effects you mention.
  • Exactly...I have never heard anyone have this version.  So that's why I'm trying to get any information on it I can.  One of the special items IS NEVER THERE and it makes it so you cannot complete the game.  Also, you can ride on the skull bad guys.
  • bump...so basically no one else has played this version then?  Any information would be great...someone else has had to have at least played it.
  • I'd help you if I had the same problem. Honestly the only way to answer questions like this fully is to ask capcom themselves. I have decided to write a letter to them about my GnG oddity. Maybe you should do the same. The worst they could say is that they don't know about it. I'll post any answers I get on my GnG subject, but it could take a while to get a response, if I even get one. Not sure how asking them works...
  • I doubt they will respond, but sometimes they well. Best case they send the contact info for the game designers image
