For cart games, do you buy complete only?

I used to.  I turned down good deals like Daze Before Christmas cart only for $45 because of this.  In all fairness, this was before the price became really stupid on it.

These days I mostly do cart only due to space and cost but will get a complete game if the price is decent.

  • Pretty much if it came in in hard case (like sega games,tg16) then I get CIB (I know there are cardboard boxes but there aren't that many) other wise it is loose.

  • I normally collect loose carts, but I prefer buying CIB Genesis games. Probably because the clamshells are functional and have aged better than cardboard boxes on the Nintendo side of the aisle. Only time I buy loose is if the game itself is hard to get or if I can flip it for profit to help fund the hobby.
  • I like to collect complete but I am not against cart only. For CDs, complete is a must (why do people even throw away packages for CDs...)
  • CIB is and always has been my ultimate goal, but I have bought carts or manuals before with the intention of getting the other pieces later. Generally though, I will hold off for a CIB because completing them later can be a huge pain.
  • I like doing it the other way around, since I have an EverDrive: buy the manual and box/sleeve when I can find them at a good price, and trust that I have a good shot at running into a cart-only down the road.
  • For CD based stuff and Genesis I only do CIB.
  • I get both! CIB to display, loose to play.
  • For me all disc based games must be CIB. I used to collect loose Genesis and SMS but I now am trying to get them all cased up with manuals. I don't bother with cardboard boxes for Nintendo games like NES and SNES. The only cardboard boxes I allow are Genesis, 32x, Game Gear, Sega CD, and PC
  • I used to buy complete only. Full stop. I always wanted the whole package as it was released. Missed out on some killer games over the years because of it too.
  • Sega and disc based yes. NES could really care less. SNES I prefer with box, but have no qualms with loose if the price difference is too much. N64 I prefer the box as well since I only have a couple used games and kept the boxes for everything I bought. Not that it really matters since I put all the cardboard boxes in totes and store them so I can fit more games in my gaming area.
  • My Genesis games are boxed up, only have the carts out. Don't have the space.
  • I only do Complete for disc based games, otherwise it's cart only (unless I can find a great deal on a CIB)
  • Like others, disc based and Sega Genesis I go CIB but for others its cart only. I like boxes for NES and SNES but I feel alot of time its over rated. I get games that I want out on display CIB but everything else I try to go CI. Plus NES and SNES carts are so distinct they look go good naked
  • If you don't have the cash or space then fair dice, just grab the cart. Or even if you are a CIB collector, grabbing the cart to a rare game can give you that fix that will just tide you over until you you can find the CIB (well that's what I am doing with my NES collection)>

But as for Sega gear, most PAL games are dirt cheap even CIB, even rare Master System games can be had CIB for under AUD30 sometimes. Mega Drive less so, but not far off that mark. SO unless you are literally broke or your house is bursting at the seams, you may as well grab CIBs where you can.
  • I tend to just get what I see if it's at a good price. I prefer to have the game complete, but to be completely honest, I'm more concerned with having the game in working condition than I am with having a complete copy.

Of course, there are a few CIB games I really want, like Streets of Rage 3. I have the first two games CIB, so naturally, I'd like to complete that set with a complete copy of the third game. But given that it's rare and reasonably expensive for a Genesis game, I'd settle for a loose copy. I'd even settle for one with cosmetic damage if it saved me some money.
  • I do both. I generally don't turn anything down. Most of my collection is cart only, but I am fine with that. I collect to horde and play, rather than to have CIB. If I really like a game I will try to get CIB, but I don't sweat it. I think it's more important to have the game. That's what I'm trying to preserve, not so much the stuff it came in.
