My 1st Big Score :D
They're having a community garage sale in my neighborhood. About 6 houses in, I came to a nice sized house with a good variety of stuff. Don't see anything too worthwhile so I turn to leave.. lo and behold I spot an old NES and SNES on a table infront of a plastic milk crate full of games.
I see a pile of around 12 nes games... duck hunt.. baseball... zelda 1.. zelda 2.. not bad... HOLY CRAP METALSTORM
. I grab a handful of games and ask the younger kid how much for them. He says he wants 5 bucks for the zelda games, but the rest a couple bucks for the lot. I tell him I'll give him 5 bucks for Zelda 2 since I already have Zelda 1, and 3 bucks for the rest. He says 8 bucks for the lot is fine and he'll throw in Zelda 1 for free.
Legit. Then his mom walks up saying "Holdon honey, these two were worth money, how much are you getting?" She pulls Metalstorm and Kirby's Adventure from the stack. He tells her "We were gonna do 8 dollars for all those." .. After a little bit of hmm'ing back and forth between them the mom says, "Well that sounds okay but these are real old and I don't know what they're worth so I don't know..", I assure her, "Most of these old NES games go for a 1 or 2 bucks a piece. Here, what do you say we make it an even $10?".
To that they both nod in agreement, we shake hands and I walk away with the following games for a cool 10 bucks:
-Metroid
-Castlequest
-Kirby's Adventure
-Metalstorm (in excellent condition)
-The Legend of Zelda
-The Adventure of Link
-Starship Hector
-Archon
All in good condition, some with dust sleeves. Maybe I should have dug around more for manuals in their box, but I don't think they kept any.
That's my first decent find at a garage sale. Think I did good?

They were cool with it - especially since I got them to play instead of sell.

What's with the brand new people making their first post a FK thread spotlighting their immoral behavior?
Agreed...in similar situations to this I've been in, even when I know the games are worth a lot more than the asking price, I just ask them a second time what they think would be fair and go from there rather than making up my own prices to devalue their items. If they didn't do the research, it's their loss, but I won't falsely manipulate a situation, especially with a kid, to get a better deal on an already good deal. (That's my personal opinion/stance though).
What you did was wrong.
It is one thing to buy something for what a person is asking, it is totally another to provide false information under the pretenses you know what you were talking about.
If I had overheard the conversation I would have F'ed you out of the buy, and offered them more. (I do not do this, hunters code, but I will make exceptions for scammers and dirt balls.)
I avoided talking about Metalstorm. You're making this out to be something worse than it was. I didn't actually lower any price, I gave the asking price.

3 dollars for the stack and 5 dollars for each Zelda were the asking price. When I say kid I mean younger than me, about 18 - who approached me about the video games. I was willing to pay that for Zelda 2 and said I didn't need Zelda 1. When the woman said "I don't know what these all are worth" She was referring to the stack of games with Metalstorm and Kirby's Adventure removed from it (Metroid ,Castlequest, Starship Hector, Archon) and my exact words were, "I think most of these old NES games for for about 1 or 2 dollars.".

Bog7,
I will apologize for my pervious post then.
I would not have messed with your deal, had it gone down like that. I would have probably just asked to see what you scored and said good for you, after the transaction was complete.
Everyone is a little saucy, due to a recent poster who straight up Stole 2 copies of Demon's Crest on SNES (one CIB) and then bragged about it on here.
Congrats on the Score, Metal Storm is an Awesome Game to Play.
I am glad they are in your hands rather than just all ending up on ebay from a pure reseller.
Best Wishes
Michael
I had recently acquired Megaman 3 and 4 CIB for merely a dime apiece, and some would think that was taking advantage of the seller. Basically, a "Finders Stealers" to some. So long as seller gets asking price for goods, the world is happy. I appreciate you giving a little more than the seller's original price, OP. To be fair, my parents run into this problem all the time in the antique industry from other collectors -- espeically other antique store owners. A good example of this is my mother once paid ten dollars for a rather expensive vase valued at 1800 dollars. Almost immediately when she told her colleagues, they accused her of "taking advantage" of the little old lady running the sale.
Apologies

So how much did they want for the SNES and NES systems?
Didn't bother asking. Neither had any power adapters or av cables and the NES had seen better days (lots of yellowing).
Congrats on your finds
Too lazy to type my response so x2
