Why is Dracula X for SNES so expensive? Is this correct?
Hi, I actually joined up to this forum so I could maybe get some advice from you folks. I recently dug all my old SNES and NES stuff out from back when i was a kid. I have been playing a lot of the games, but there were a few that I just were not interested in, so I figured I would just start selling them on ebay or something.
One in particular, that I a a bit confused about, is Dracula X for the SNES. Now I never particularly liked this game, so I checked on ebay to see if it was worth something, and I am seeing prices like $150+ dollars, just for the cartridge.
I mean, I might be crazy, but this wasnt exactly a rare game was it? Why is it so expensive? What would you folks say is a REAL value for this game, that I coudl realistically ask, without ripping someone off.
Thanks for your help.

Kind of like Mega Man X3, it's a well known franchise and a pretty good game too.

Lower print run, high demand (it's Castlevania) = expensive.

Funny, I have All the megaman games too, from the nes ones to the SNES ones. But I actually like megaman... I suppose I'm not really a collector though, I just like playing fun games. Honestly though, I dont even have room for all these games. Right now I have a pile about 2 feet tall in front of my TV, going through them all, cleaning them, and testing them.
But of course it would be nice to sell it here to someone as a really good deal I'll give you more than the $40 previously offered!
I'm glad I got it from a pawn shop for 5 bucks lol

It's a butchered port, but because it's Castlevania + Konami + on the SNES + uncommon ... the price tag is what it is.
That s not entirely accurate. It was a stand alone game, not a port and called Dracula XX to denote it. It is a unique game but not, a side story, kind of like you mighty final fight is but is not final fight on NES. The SNES game stands on its own with a shared loose story to it, but all the stages are unique as it was made from the ground up for the system. I haven't looked in years but I think the castlevania dungeon website covered something about it.
the mmx3 comparison kind of fits as it is a late release by a notable third party and done in a minimal level of print to turn an easy profit and not have a bunch of inventory wasted left behind at their cost.
I scored a shit load of turbo Grafx and cd stuff pretty cheap and doubled my money plus got drac X (and still gave the guy an amazing deal... Sold for 1/2 of what it was worth)
Then I bought the box and man for $100. So I basically used my profit for that, still had money left over...
I'm so happy I'm almost done w the expensive snes games as they seem to just keep getting higher...
Now...who has my metal warriors??
Gone through two copies of this game in my life. Probably 3. Not going to buy it for a fourth time because of the insane price hike. About five years ago it was only a 110 dollar game. I don't think demand has anything to do with this. I think a set group of ebay sellers drove the price up on this game because it is selling for nearly the same amount of money as Earthbound and more copies of Dracula X exist than Earthbound that is a given.
Dracula X was a highly promoted release when it frist came out in 1995. I remember seeing copies at Blockbuster and more than one as well!

I don't doubt it. I think many games are in this situation where resellers have deliberately bought up all the readily available copies to 'corner the market' and inflate the price.
I'm a Castlevania fan and I'd pay $30 on the high side for it.

I think it was the collectors who deliberately drove up the price. That way if you wanted to be part of the cool club, you'd have to pay admission. WHOSE MIND JUST EXPLODED?!??!

Super CV 4 smokes Dracula x by a long shot
Disagreed 100%. Super CV4 looks and sounds hideous, and it's full of dipshitted/boring design choices. Dracula XX is designed like a true classic Castlevania game, and beautifully so. Plus, subweapons besides the cross are actually good, and it has a real Dracula fight.
I love SCVIV. The music is beautiful, control of your whip is fluent. I'd kill to play a good Rom-Hack with re-designed levels but unforutnately I don't think people have cracked the games code and reverse engineered it. I'd love to see a rom hack of SCVIV.
Dracula X on the SNES is a hard game. I can at least say I beat the game back when I used to own it. But I hate the price on the game. Over recent years I've wanted to play it again on a legit platform.
But I can't now because I'd be paying Earthbound prices on it. And sadly, if you look on ebay, you can buy a repro cart of the "Evil Trevor" hack for wayyyy cheaper than you can an original copy and that is messed up!

there's a copy at a local retro game store in my area with a label that's torn in half and it's priced at 329.95 lol.
Our 2nd hand store Cashopolis is selling it for $249.99. They always seem to have 2 or 3 copies of the game. Which is insane but it has a complete intact label.
