A giant Nintendo Power haul

  • On a related note, I just got back from a Salvation Army store. In a bin at the front, there were a bunch of video game consoles under a sign that said "Clearance - $1 video game consoles".

So I just took the $1 price tag off of an old Atari and put it on a brand-new Wii U (priced at $200) near the cash register. It's still a video game console, isn't it? So it should only be a dollar. The old lady ringing in my order didn't figure someone would be a big enough scumbag to rip off a store that donates most of their profits to charity, so she didn't question it. Therefore, not stealing.
  • Wow OP in this one went from being someone who was just kind of shady, to seeming like a total dick for claiming that thinking stealing (which is what happened, lets not pretend otherwise) is wrong equals being on a high horse.

I would never steal a game. I mean sure I swap valuable genesis carts into the cases of dollar sports games, but that's the cashiers fault for being too dumb to open the case and check. Also the store has no right to charge higher prices on the games that are more sought after and rare so I am just correcting an unfair pricing decision.
  • I don't think I would ever feel comfortable buying anything from you, that's for sure.

    O RLY???

    This thread is gross.

  • I have purchased Genesis carts CIB at the thrift store that they put in the VHS bins. I dont try to hide anything, just bring them up to the register and they charge me $0.99 each...they are all marked with a sticker. All video games are kept behind the counter, so they assume if you bring one up to the cashier, it is a VHS. This doesn't make me a bad person, does it?! I don't do anything to hide the fact that they are not VHS like flip them over, I simply bring them up and they check me out because it is marked with a sticker for $0.99. I may catch some shit for posting this, but I would think most people would do the same. I have never seen Genesis games behind the counter, so I also assume they do not know they are video games.

This doesn't seem at all like it is a problem to me.  You are paying the actual marked price on the item and doing nothing to deceive the people working there.  The difference with OP is that he hid the marked price in an effort to pull one over on the cashier.  It isn't your fault they are pricing things incorrectly, and it isn't your job to fix it.

What issues were picked up anyway as I am kind of curious. If I remember right only the earliest of them are worth more than probably a quarter or fifty cents anyway.

Around 40 issues between volumes 35-80ish. Not top dollar stuff here, and not really worth the stink you guys are making about this.

This has turned into an ethics debate, but I have no ill feelings about what I did. The CHAIN makes up giant signs to post in their book section, with prices listed for books and magazines. To single out a specific magazine simply because the guy with the price gun thinks it's worth more is no more shady than me trying to get them for the price they're technically supposed to be sold for. I wanted a deal, and they, for whatever reason, wanted to gouge the price a little.

Not a classy move, you don't have to think it is either, but I paid exactly what the store charges for a magazine. Which is what this is.

I didn't pay what some employee premium priced it as, superseding the chain's own pricing scheme.

Yeah it doesnt work that way. It would be the same as going into a local gamestore and there is a 3.00 box and a 15.00 plus box and you take all the games from the 15.00 plus box and hope they assume they are from the 3.00 box.
