I've decided to quit collecting video games

I only joined SegaAge recently and wanted to get every PAL and NTSC Genesis game but I just can't do it, anymore.  I found a lot of the games just sat there and I had some expensive games such as The Wily Wars so the costs weren't worth it.  I also had two family members nearly die this year and it made me think about how fast life can change so I want to take the money I would spend on my games and put it towards my future, a massive vacation or even new guitar equipment.



I still love video games, especially retro so I still play retro games legally through compilation games, Steam, The Virtual Console and I still drag out my Genesis for games which are only avaliable on cart only.



This has honestly been the coolest board I've been on.  Most game forums are usually just teenagers trying to out insult each other but you guys are awesome.  I will still hang around and give advice and opinions but as a collector, I am done.  I might go back to it one day so I'm not selling anything but I was a collector for 4 years so it was a good run.

    Sorry to see you go and know that you and Dane talked a lot and are in the same area. I've also thought about quiting but I'm too deep in it so it would kill me to go back to where I started. Take care of your family and stick around maybe get an everdrive flash cart that way you'll have all the games.

    Moderation is the key. Take a break from buying for a bit. Try balancing collecting/gaming with the other things in your life.

    No reason to quit. As wrk said, just take it in moderation. Just buy the games you will actually play.

    Pick up a everdrive, sell your collection and play all the games you want. Also music equipment!

    I agree, sell off the crap and keep the favorites. No need to stop gaming, but all of us collectors dump money into things just to have them, even if we dont like to play them...just stop doing that part. I have been pondering the same thing and have started thinning out things I dont care about.

    Give it time. I would advise holding onto the stuff for at least a year. Life's motivations change. This stuff only gets harder to find or more expensive so I highly doubt in your region that the prices are going to drop. I've thought about quitting before too, but I buy a new game every now and then. Good luck. Hope all of our Aussies don't drop out of the game, though I would highly consider it with the prices of your games over there.

    I started selling some of my collection a little while ago. I found myself always going back to my Sega games and consoles more, so I started getting rid of some of my Nintendo stuff and some other things not Sega related. Made a good chunk of change in a couple weeks just in time for the holidays. I have kids and all my gaming items were reduced to be put in a closet. I mainly just play the games now which can be done on my OuYa and portable Genesis as well as PC etc. So I deff understand where youre coming from with wanting to slow down/quit with the collecting.

    Sorry to hear that! One thing I learned from coming and going through life, one endeavor isn't better than other, they are all complimentary. Its the state of mind that is what makes the endeavor worth it or not. Some ppl search for thing their whole life only to find out what they really enjoy is the search! Find out what you like, and then find out if you like finding out!
