Madden Football Championship, non-rental cart?

John Madden Football Championship has 2 releases, one was a rental exclusive and I guess the other was a retail release.

Looking through eBay completed listings, I see the different box and manual for the retail release, but I've never seen a cartridge specific to it.

Is there a release-release specific cartridge? Or do the cartridges from both releases say "Rental Store Exclusive"?

As far as I know, it's two different carts. It's also technically two different titles, John Madden Football '93 and John Madden Football Championship Edition.

Edit: I was just looking at the manual for the Championship Edition and inside it says John Madden Football '93 Championship Edition.

As a follow-up question, John Madden Football '93 comes with a game poster that shows defensive and offensive plays. Did the Championship Edition also come with that? I suspect not since it was a rental exclusive (and what rental store would want to deal with it) but I could be wrong there.

Edit #2: The Championship Edition manual is significantly different from the regular edition manual. All the defensive and offensive play charts are included in the manual, so that would strongly suggest that no poster was included.

On the cover and manual it says Rental Store Exclusive, as well as on the cart.

You'll notice that it is still Madden Championship, but in the bottom left corner of the cover and manual, instead of saying "Rental" it has an EA Sports logo and says "If it's in the game, it's in the game"

In complete listings there are only two copies of the non-rental one. However even where the box/manual have the EA Sports logo, the cart still says "Rental Exclusive."

So my question is, is this the correct cartridge? Does a non-rental championship cart exist? Is this one mismatched?

Both were sold by the same seller (uniquegameseller aka alinktothepastzz) and I know he bought a lot of copies of the game and it reselling and inflating the price on them. So there is the chance that he was recombining things, but I don't know.

Anyone own both variants that can shed some light?

The cart is the same in both versions. It's just a sticker over the "rental exclusive" stamp that was on the insert and manual. The cart didn't have the stamp and therefore didn't require a sticker to cover it over.

And they didn't put like a small strip sticker over the words "Rental Store Exclusive" on the cart or anything?

I just saw this thread for the first time. I purchased a copy of Championship Edition via phone by EA soon after if was released. (If I remember correctly it was $79.99.) The game arrived unsealed, and as described above, had a sticker on both the insert and manual, covering up the "rental store exclusive" text, but leaving it intact on the cartridge label.

It's pretty cool to own a copy which was never a rental.
