I spent about an hour doing attempts tonight. Got a 1:57 from start of control to 100th coin. At least a few seconds of mistakes in there, too. Still don't know if I'm using the fastest route.
Well, shit. I got a decent run in last night, went to upload the video and my internet connection crapped out on me. Modem hasn't connected to the internet since. Hopefully I can fix it when I get home.
ETA: Also, will you allow capture card video? Maybe with a secondary video of you showing the CRT/TV/Whatever while doing things like walking back and forth so you know it's the same video?
Im not sure what you mean. If the video looks the same as a emulator screen recording would, then I will have to deny it, simply becuase I'm a neanderthal that doesn't know what's going on.
emulator/computer screen bad
CRT with phone/timer in shot good
I meant using a capture card to record the run + take a pic of the TV + NES/video of the TV+NES in action. I know it came out very convoluted the way I worded.

This is what I did, so I hope it's okay. I don't own a camera or cell phone; I capture my gameplay with a Dazzle.

i came up with about the same thing. i think its going to be a pretty tight competition and will be all about eliminating mistakes and getting it on tape.
Im sorry, no one is posting attempts. Im going to have to change the ending time to force people to show what theyve got. expect a rule change shortly.
took the other route this time (ending on 4-1 instead of 2-1) i think its faster provided you have enough coins to hit 100 without having to go up in between the blocks. many of my early attempts i had a few less coins so 2-1 made more sense as the coins are close together.

Why would you post a video if there's still a week to go? There's no reason to do that until just before the deadline. First of all, you're giving away your strategy. Second, I'm only going to post my best attempt, and there's plenty of time left to improve it.
I timed it a few times with an online stopwatch and got right around 1:54:50. I'm pretty sure I could save about four seconds with this route without any mistakes...

You need to record it old fashion way, apparently, though, man.

I don't have the means to, and I'm not trying to win.

Ahh, that's a shame.
Just letting you know, not trying to be an ass. It's pretty obvious it's a capture card so it's a shame a timer couldn't be added by some editing or what not, even if it is the slightest chance somebody's run is from an emulator, that only proves they're quite bad (if they use savestates, etc., of course). I doubt anybody would even know how to edit it together good enough (or even know how to TAS) to make it seem real, so it really narrows it down, I think we could easily use the honor system in this case.
No video editing can surpass the pure beauty of captured NES footage! lol, it just can't be easily re-created
Alder and Fatal Fury, great runs. I like that you chose different levels to finish on. Under 2 minutes is a heck of a bar to set Remember don't be embarassed, just post. It's fun to talk about what works and what doesn't and what parts are hard or whatever. Great start!

I know youre not, but I dont know a ton about what can be done, and this is pretty close to TG rules, so Im just more comfortable with it. It's also the way we verify Tetris scores in that circuit. Im not asking for a Betamax player here, a phone and a TV and youre good

I don't have a phone with a video camera. Are you saying I can't enter? I was planning on just uploading footage straight from my dvd recorder.
I was going to end on 2-1 but I found 4-1 to be slightly faster and a bit easier for me. I didn't realize you could get the coins in the pipe rooms by smashing blocks from the lower level. That's probably a bit faster.

Is it? I'm starting to use a capture device now. It just seems that most people use a camcorder/phone/what have you with a TV these days.
Can you please not end this yet. I had a great run today, but when I rewatched the video my TV is so bright that you couldn't see anything in the above ground section. I was pretty bummed as it was a really great run for that particular path. Hopefully I can get something up tomorrow some time. Urgh.
