Im sorry but this has to be fake. The label fell off? Also, and this may be reading a little too deep into it, but it was posted with ebay mobile. If I'm posting an item thats going to need such specific details and is going to bring in north of 25 thousand dollars, I'm not posting it with my damn phone.
(off topic)
The Ebay mobile app is universal and runs on iphone or ipad. I actually sold off my laptop and strictly use both of those devices for my computing needs. Hence, all of my auctions will tend to say that, unless I managed to edit and remove the relevant text. The current iphone has a camera that beats most discrete digital cameras you see in stores, and has computing power roughly equal to a macbook.
I just wanted to clarify that because an app is "mobile", doesn't mean it is being used on a free samsung phone from walmart.
Also, the game being stored in a black sleeve in no special way doesn't mean anything either. When I had stadium I didn't store it in any special way either and kept it with the rest of my games as well. I've also used it as a beer coaster before.
So I guess there is not much stopping someone from converting a NWC grey to a gold with missing lablel (besides the lack of a NWC grey to begin with)
Yup that has been talked about long ago. The idea was that the history of the cart would (hopefully) show if it actually came from one of the NP contest winners.
There is no difference between the gold nwc and a gold zelda, that is where they got the gold nwc cases in the first place.
The seller of the grey emailed me he made an error in the listing yesterday and ebay pulled it. That is why it is re listed. Also what else he told me confirms my earlier findings. It seems to be legit on the gray but I'd like to see the board on it of course
Thanks, I am working that (can't find a tool in my small town and making a 200 mi trip tomorrow to a retro game expert to open it) and will have those up tomorrow afternoon! I know that will def help the value. Thanks again for the message!

I got a similar message. Seems sincere. Though that and a buck fifty will get you a soda from a vending machine.
Expect some pictures of the board soon, (gold cart)
Dear pob1337,
You def are not! But I live in a small town and no one has a tool, so I am making a 200 mi trip tomorrow to have it opened by a retro gaming expert and taking pics and putting them up for everyone! Keep watching for them, should be by tomorrow evening!
Well, they glued the paper label on with gluestick glue and wishful thinking. It's actually impressive any have stayed on 24 years. Most stuff I glue with a gluestick barely lasts 24 days.
They weren't meant to be long-term collectors items, more a publicity stunt in support of the NWC.
I will say this, it looks real but a fake has been made just like that with the board from the corner, so unless it is opened it is tough to know...
HOWEVER, and I have never said this before...one of the gold carts I was NOT able to get information about WAS THE WYOMING winner in the Nintendo Power contest so I am pretty sure this is that same one that I was not able to find the original owner. It was listed as a ? on my final list of winners I could not find...
Now's the time to dump an NWC if you have a spare....
I disagree. Now is the time to buy NWC if you have money.
the one that went for 90k went for 90k because everyone posted about it. the media was all over that shit.. the media wont write about the same damn story twice in a row. you are going to see more copies of NWC come out of the woodworks right about now. and it may be your only time to pick one up. after all the hype around it has died out and forgotten. wait a few years when every media source has forgotten about the damn game and then sell the shit.

Very interesting Jason, have you contacted the seller to see what he has say to about this?
guillavoie, I have not but I believe it is real and 100%. I just think the seller has had it for a very long time but my guess is that it is real and he saw the article, hence why the game is up on eBay.

If this is legit that's awesome. I'm glad we have a resident expert with history on these things. It must be neat for you to see one you couldn't find, appear.

It sold for $99k because they were all fake bids. No one who bid that high intended to pay.

It's very interesting but a lot of my collecting has been centered around other stuff other than NES for so long that it just doesnt have the right appeal, it's more like a "that's where that Arkanoid Vaus controller I lost in 1991 went to" (true story, still never figured it out where the heck it went) but it is cool that one showed up in that sense....this makes the third one from not being able to trace/locate the person. There are only 2 more left.

I contacted the seller about it he said he found it in a box of games back in 94
Neat. That would be crazy if it sold for over 100k. the 99k sale already made news headlines. Crazy amount of money when that is what i'm looking to spend on a house!
The labels on the golds are a small triangle of paper held down with a glue stick. The quality is nowhere near a real label. It could very easily peel off leaving just glue junk behind. Doesn't immediately mean it is real, but no label doesn't mean obvious fake.
So I guess there is not much stopping someone from converting a NWC grey to a gold with missing lablel (besides the lack of a NWC grey to begin with)
This is a very good point, and very alarming as well. All you gotta do is replicate the cut hole on a zelda cart.

So you're saying that there are 22 known copies to still exist? If so, that's really amazing.

I asked if he could get a pic of the ROM board, and he said that he had to travel 200 miles to get a bit.
I was like, WTF, why does he have to travel... oh, Wyoming.
So here are some answers to what I have been seeing posted out there, yes I posted the NWC Gold cart via a mobile app.....so what? Do I have to be locked to a computer all day or is there something wrong with my iPad or iPhone.....if I were to head to the office post the auction, I wouldn't have done it.....spur of the moment....yep I sure a heck used some of the pre typed verbiage from the last grey cart the was up, saved me time typing some stuff.....I was going to add some other pics of the cart but didn't have a nes tool handy, how many of you do? So I have photos I got done today after a 3 hour drive to add to the auction, unfortunately they aren't attaching right but if you want to see them shoot me a message, some have seen them and they would prob agree....real deal....the missing label, get with it collectors and learn the linage behind the game and the shoty job NPM did putting them on and how many that have surfaced have the label.....do be jealous that you don't have one, be happy for others.....
Comments
(Yeah I know it's worth a lot more, but not having that sticker also reduces the value)
To me the gray's have more history since they were given away to contest participants.
My money is that it's legit, and the sticker really did fall off.
Time and pictures should tell hopefully that the board is legit atleast.

Unfortunately he can't add pictures because it is running auction?
In anyway, prediction of stupid bidding? $200k-$250k?
