Picture Authenticity

What are the best ways to prove that a picture of an item is authentic?  Would it be best to get something specific in the background or something like that?  Or, alternatively, what are some common fake tells?

    that days newspaper with the date showing is a pretty good one

    pretty much its impossible to tell with all the photo shopping but a newspaper would be better than nothing
