  • What do you do that you have such hours?
  • Actually, I always work in the afternoon, but I only have a part time job as I'm still a student. They're the best shift IMO, I can sleep to 11 o'clock, work, and then drink some beer with my friends after.
  • When I worked at Office Depot doing afternoons wasn't so bad. It sucks working until close, but if you can get up at a normal time you can actually get things done in the morning. The worst was working on Sunday, since it was a short day (for the store) they made people work open to close (long day for the individual).
  • Try working 3am-noon for at least 5-6 hours....then complain image
  • I am working 5 am to 5:30 pm every day with a 2 hr lunch. Plus I am getting bitched and nagged about the long lines! Yay Christmas

  • But you love the post office image
  • yeah, I work pretty much 9a-7p everyday, and am starting a part-time job in addition, that will be everyday from 7p-12p and all day Saturday. I have little sympathy.

Holy crap man. I commend you.
  • Wow man a lot of people on this board work insane hours... no idea how you guys do it.

I used to be a waiter through high school and college and had to work the 4-11 or 4-midnight shift all the time. Not to mention the two night you don't want to work (Fri and Sat) are the nights with the most money so you are forced to take one for the team...

be glad I don't live anywhere near you then

when I was selling full time, I used to bring in 10-15 boxes (all needing d/c or customs slips) at a time and of course thats when all the nut jobs need to mail out some stupid bill or letter so i'm blocking the line up for old farts needing a stamp

    lol

  • ^ Was that before the internet?? Why the hell would you pay $0.75 for D/C when you can print it online for like $0.18 First Class or Free on Priority Mail? Just money down the drain...

My Post Offices love me, I have one during the week while I'm at work and one for Saturdays at home. Either way I can walk in and no matter how ridiculously long the line may be they just wave me to the front and I drop them off. Having all your postage printed and packages ready to go is a must if you are serious about reselling.
  • jonebone, I still pay .75 for d/c because I don't touch a computer once I leave work..
plus some of us don't have a scale at home that will weigh heavy 4+ oz items...

Going to the PO is much easier and simpler...

not quite, but it was awhile ago (I think at the time it was only .50) it was around 2002 or so

didn't have a printer or scale, otherwise I would've been doing it that way

I mean shit, I got my first regular printer about a year ago...

  • Jonas, I think the online perks for using Priority are fairly new (within the last year or so), so anytime before that there wasn't a real benefit. Now, not only do you get free DC, you also get something like $0.50 discount for buying the postage online.
  • The graveyard shift is worse in my opinion. When I was working retail, all I was doing was working thru the night, sleeping, and getting up in order to work again.
  • I'll trade you Doug!

oh its nice having a job but im a nighter for life. Im wide awake when the sun goes down and can fall asleep at the first site of the sun. To me working at night you can sleep til 1 0r 2 in the afternoon then have all evening to do what you want. and if you have things that have to be done in the morning that option is open.  plus my gym time is usally at 4pm so ill be losing a months training,

  • I've worked all kinds of crazy shifts over the past few years at my place of employment...

    6:00am to 3:30pm

    4:00pm to 1:30am

    4:00pm to 2:30am

    10:30pm to 6 or 7am

    8:00am to 4:00pm

    4:00pm to 12:00am

    12:00am to 8:00am

And a few others beside that. I spent the better part of a year working entirely on graveyards (10:30pm to usually 6:30 or 7:00am) which was absolutely terrible. Shift work in general is a bit of a drag honestly. Your body just doesn't adjust well to your constantly fluctuating schedule and it really wrecks you.

Of course now I'm laid off 90% of the time. Yay crappy economy! image
  • current shifts think afternoons suck try this one on for size

    1st job 4am - 2pm mon - friday

2nd job 3:30pm til 11:30pm tues, wed, sat

  • Try this out:

On your way home from work, stop at your pharmacy and go to the thermometer section and purchase a rectal thermom eter made by Johnson &Johnson

Be very sure you get this brand. When you get home, lock your doors, draw the curtains and disconnect the phone so you will not be disturbed.

Change into very comf ortable clothing and sit in your favorite chair. Open the package and remove the thermometer. Now, carefully place it on a table or a surface so that it will not become chipped or broken.

Now the fun part begins .

Take out the literature from the box and read it carefully .

You will notice that in small print there is a statement:

' Every Rectal Thermometer made by Johnson &Johnson is personally tested and then sanitized .

    '

Now, close your eyes and repeat out loud five times, 'I am so glad I do not work in the thermometer quality control department at Johnson &Johnson .

    '

  • ewww i dont know what would be worse the person getting it shoved up their butt or the person doing the shoving.lol guess it wouldnt be to bad if the person you were testing it on was a female who looked like jessica simpson
