took the other route this time (ending on 4-1 instead of 2-1) i think its faster provided you have enough coins to hit 100 without having to go up in between the blocks. many of my early attempts i had a few less coins so 2-1 made more sense as the coins are close together.
Awesome run. was that 1:53?
please just leave the previous games in the future so we can see the progression of you (and others) getting faster.
I know youre not, but I dont know a ton about what can be done, and this is pretty close to TG rules, so Im just more comfortable with it. It's also the way we verify Tetris scores in that circuit. Im not asking for a Betamax player here, a phone and a TV and youre good
I don't have a phone with a video camera. Are you saying I can't enter? I was planning on just uploading footage straight from my dvd recorder.
Can you please not end this yet. I had a great run today, but when I rewatched the video my TV is so bright that you couldn't see anything in the above ground section. I was pretty bummed as it was a really great run for that particular path. Hopefully I can get something up tomorrow some time. Urgh.
I'm not going to end it today. I'm going to end it when i feel the most irritated. (ha)
what was your time? get another one up quick! play with more light in the room if it was too bright. that will probably fix your problem.
also in your phones settings there might be a way to take it off auto adjust. room light would be my first choice though.

I had roughly 1:51-1:52, but would need a better video for a more percise time. I think I could probably get sub 1:50 (from the very instant the black screen appears to when I touch the last coin) if I play my route perfect. There are two routes and one is slightly faster with a little more risk. I have back shift tonight and tomorrow. I'll see what I can do before tomorrow evening before my shift. Probably be too tired in the morning when I get home to be productive.
Won't be able to post anything until thursday,so I'm most likely out. No offense to the OP,but not having a set end time will probably deter some people new to the thread or people not able to post yet from posting a score because their efforts could be in vain since the plug could be pulled at any time.

yeah its 1:53. i can re-upload the old run if you want, i just took it down because i didnt want there to be any confusion about which was the most recent/final submission. i think it was mostly habit as i am used to keeping things organized a certain way from playing in bimmy's contest every week.
i will link any future score updates in a new post.
Okay, here it is, not what I was aiming at but still not bad at all.
Looking frame per frame, the black screen appears at 0:00:331 on the chronometer, and the lives count show up at 0:00:389. The 100th coin is recorded at 1:53:254, which would make it 1:52:923 or 1:52:865 depending on the very moment the attempt begin (black screen or lives count).
That was quite a fun idea. I think I'll work on my run to get sub 1:50:00 just for the heck of it.
youtube is giving me an estimated upload time of about 30mins as of right now.
i have already pulled it into my computer and checked the frame by frame to verify (it comes out to 1:49:24 from screen turns black to coin counter ticks over to 00)
my apologies for the language in the clip, was feeling the pressure for sure.
edit2add: video is live now, thanks to robin for hosting the contest!
Yeah, I guess it's over. I'll think of a tie breaking SMB-related challenge in the next 24 hours. For the record, my fastest time was 1:46, but I wasn't using firepower, and think i could shave more off if I did it that way. Congrats to the winners!
Next time please have a set end time. I didn't know about the contest until today, so I specifically went out and bought a cartridge to do this. It's irritating to find out that it's just suddenly over when I was still practicing. -___-
The second paragraph says the time could be random until "the original ending time" which below states 1 week from time stamp. sorry if that wasnt clear.
Damn, I have a 148 ready to go, lol. I respect the end time though. I'll upload it for the fun of it. I think I could get to 146-147 with a another couple days of practice.

the original end time was posted to be one week from when the thread opened, it was changed to be random because everyone was keeping scores in their back pocket to post right at the deadline rather than having an ongoing dialog about playing the game. it ended up going thru the original planned deadline and did not end early.
the good news is, your recent cart puchase is not wasted, SMB is the first game in the 2014 weekly contests starting Feb 2nd. the thread is sticked at the top of this forum.
*checks original post* Oh, you're right. It did end on time. Sorry about that. For some reason I had it in my mind that the contest started on the 27th, <_>
Oh well, the trip to the store was worth it anyways since they had something else I was looking for, so I guess it's good that this got me to the store. Thanks NintendoAge. : D

thats awesome that you're still grinding it down man. i think given more time i could make a couple strategy changes and stay competitive but personally after a whole week of this run i am really looking forward to changing it up with whatever random challenge robin thinks up.

I was working on something and thought I had a week to record a run.
here is the link
i made a mistake at the end that could potentially result in a sub-1:50 time but i am not sure i will be able to record anymore by the contest end.
