Anyone Else Getting a Snow Day Today?

Hey, I am getting a snow day today.  They annouced it even before a single snow flake fell.  I work as a substitute teacher and today is the day before winter break so they are letting us out early.  We are supposed to get upwards of a foot of snow (0.3 meter for our Canadian friends).  The commute in the  morning will be a fucking nightmare.  Glad I don't have to go anywhere, but you know what that means....I'll be shoveling the driveway and sidewalks in front of my house.

Also an interesting side note.... Did anyone see that it snowed in Las Vegas?  I didn't even think that was possible.

  • lol my wife's already decided she's calling off no matter what. She's been planning for a long weekend anyways, but the little Honda has no snow skills. If they cancel, bonus for her, she doesn't have to burn a sick day image
  • The school I work at called a half day (leave at 11:30) last night. I love getting a half day instead of a snow day because I won't have to make it up at the end of the year. I heard we're getting 6-12".
  • Off from school in Northern NJ as well.
  • Not very often is there a snow day up here, or they would have a lot of make up to do
  • When I was young I loved the snow but now that I'm older I absolutely hate it because driving in it is a nightmare. Not to mention that I work for the Naval base which has maybe closed one day in the past 10 years. They are usually open no matter what... our military doesn't take off for snow image
  • Every School in the county is closed here in SW MI. We are getting alternating layers of snow and ice...beautiful
  • What are these snow days you guys talk about? Don't have those around TN much..

It's 64 today, and it's been raining all week.. I wish we'd get some more snow..

  • I was gonna start a thread about this, I'm in Nebraska, and you may have seen on the national news that we had something called "thundersleet", never seen it before or even heard the term, and I have lived here my whole life, basically last night we had a rain/sleet/ice storm with thunder and lightning!, it was F'in crazy, I've never seen lightning in a ice storm!, so we got about an inch of ice on everything, followed by 3 inches of snow, I couldn't even open my car doors, everything is frozen shut!, and half the trees in my neighborhood are bowing down from the weight of the ice!
  • No snow there, but it's really cold today. (-20 celsius, so that's about -4 Farenheit)

  • 6-12" of snow.....people stay home......enjoy, have a snow ball fight
  • Its unbelievable how hot it was here yesterday. It was about 85 degrees F. I went swimming and got a suntan. It was so hard to believe that X-mas was in 1 week and I was ruuning around shirtless with shorts on lol.
  • We're getting 6-12" of snow today in here in Connecticut.
  • Well were covered in ice here (MO). Everyone is slidding around like crazy...

But no, I still have work. Apparently drug addicts need help no matter what the weather is like :-\
  • We didn't get any snow here, but when I woke up there was probably close to 1/2 inch of ice on everything. It took me awhile to get to the train station to get to work, and after I finally did, they announced that the trains wern't running because of ice on the overhead wires. So its a snow day for me as well!
  • We're getting dumped on pretty good. I'm a contractor but they're closing the customer facility I work at at 1 so I'm taking off early.

  • its been snowing non stop here since sometime last night and is still snowing right now

I was shoveling for about 4 hours today...yipee

well at least its looking more like christmas now
  • Snow? What's that?

    I live in San Diego

Oh wait I heard of that stuff, yeah I can drive up to the mountains and see it. =)
  • I'm glad I live in a place where snow is the exception and not the rule.

As a kid it was fun, but as an adult it's a hassle. (and I have to pay for heat)
  • Not a chance, worked 3am-noon...and have my work party tonight at 6pm-10pm....so we'll see what happens.

  • This morning the Illinois State police and Illinois Dept. of Transportation told people to not drive, thus giving lots of people in the Chicago area a snow day. WOOOOO HOOOOO!!!1
  • Good lord was it hot here yesterday. Me and the GF went down to the old city and saw It's a Wonderful Life at a historic theater and it was almost 70. I drove there with my windows down and nearly wore shorts! Crazy!
