Nintendo Trivia

Today I was wondering what the first colored game cartridge was for each nintendo system and handheld up to the Game Cube.

So, do you guys know what the first colored game cartridges were for each system?  If it was an unlicensed game first, then what was the first licensed game thereafter.  Post your replies with the game and color of the cartridge.

NES ---

SNES ---

N64 ---

GB ---

GBC ---

GBA ---

GBA SP ---

DS --- are there even any?

So, feel free to put in your two cents since this is probably good information to know....posterity.....

  • The few I can think of and could be wrong are

    NES --- Zelda

    SNES --- Killer Instinct

    GB --- Donkey Kong

  • Heres the colored carts I have for N64, so that would put Ocarina of Time as the first released unless there are some I forgot, anyone know of any others

  • Did Killer Instinct come out before Total Carnage (the red spider man game) or Doom (also red)?
  • Maximum Carnage September 94

    Killer Instinct August 95

    Doom September 95
  • Maximum Carnage was also a limited-run in the red carts. I have a grey cart myself, would really like a red one at some point though...one of the few variants I think I'd hunt down, but it shouldn't be too hard image
  • Whoops, "maximum" not "total". Total carnage is the jungle-warfare knock-off of Smash TV.

Anyway, I was pretty sure it predated KI. A buddy of mine had the red cart when they came out. It looks pretty good.
  • My guess for NES would be Zelda for sure.

I don't know much about the N64, but to add to Shags list, I have a Tony Hawk cartridge that I think is... blue? I'll have to check, but I'm also not sure on what year it came out.
  • how i missed the tony hawk games i dont know I will add them to the list

  • Shags, you missed a lot of sports games too I'm sure.

I Know NBA Jam 2000 (Chris Webber) was made in Red, and All-Star Baseball 2001 (Derek Jeter) was made in Red as well...
  • Nintendo 64

wasn't Jeremy Mcgrath motocross a red cart as well?
  • Even though it wasn't the first, another to add to the 64 list is Madden 2002..it came in a black cart.
  • nice i was pretty sure I missed a bunch of sports games as I dont have most of them
  • and Madden 2000 was blue I believe...
  • madden 2000 was grey but 2001 was blue
