Which should I get, a genesis or saturn?

I am debating getting either one. The genesis seems more cost friendly (actually I probably can't afford the saturn or even the genesis for that matter ), but give me your opinions. Also if anyone has an extra genesis system, pm me . Thanks!

  • I have an extra genesis if you want it. I would get a genesis btw unless you are really into shooters. I think your system wants should be more based around what kind of games you want and whether you want 2D or 3D. The genesis library is much more expansive as well.
  • Genesis, everything for it is so easy to find and cheap. Tons of good games for it, too. There are of course great games for the Saturn, but I prefer the Genesis.
  • Genesis just because of the cheapness of them and the games.
  • Skip both and buy a Dreamcast.
  • Genesis, for sure. Much of what's on the Saturn can be had on the PlayStation for cheaper, and the good exclusives tend to be pricy. Plus the US Genesis library is much, much larger.
  • I say genesis just bc the less ppl buying Saturn games the better
  • If you can afford it buy all 3

  • I'd like to give you a very longwinded answer, but before I can do so could you please tell me what type of games you prefer to play regularly? This will help me make a recommendation.
  • Sega Genesis is much cheaper to collect for, has many more games, and better games. It along with the snes are the golden age of 2d gaming for me, while the Saturn is a really fun system, it's also a very primitive 3D/rough edges kind of system that requires a pretty specific taste to enjoy.

The genesis, master system and DC are all so much cheaper to collect for primarily, and in the case of 2 of those systems, simply better than the Saturn in general unless you dabble heavily into Imports (which will cost you)

I'd agree with most of this. Granted, it's a matter of opinion and some gamers have tastes that the Saturn can better satisfy. I think for these reasons, Genesis is the better choice for most people.

  • Well of course taste is based on opinion, but the problem for the Saturn is it would require a very unique and specific kind of taste to prefer it over the genesis. The Saturn is kind of a breath of fresh air in its own way, N64 has long platformers/adventure/etc style games all over, Ps1 has a great gamut all around, and Saturn seems to hone in on arcade/short experiences with quirk with an occasional decent Rpg thrown in at points. The Genesis just had such a long life filled to the brim with Sega's arcade roots on top of very strong third party support, it's a tough battle for the poor Saturn. I'm sure people who import might have a different opinion though, especially in regards to 2d shooters and fighting games, but when trying to dig for 'the classics' on the Saturn I had to dig pretty close to the bottom of the barrel to find a really decent library, with the genesis I have to kind of purposely ignore stuff because it's all over the place, but that's me

I would recommend this too if you don't already have one and enjoy arcade style games as the Dreamcast is the best SEGA console for arcade perfect games. That being said I would say go for a Genesis as there is a bigger variety of games a lot of which is very good and most importantly cheaper.
  • If you're only doing one system, definitely go with a Genesis. The saturn is getting expensive and doesn't have the library the genesis does. Dreamcast is a great option also.
  • Only get the Saturn if you plan to fork over the cash for Panzer Dragoon Saga. That game is such a damn masterpiece that it's a true shame to own the console and never play it.
  • WHY NOT BOTH???

  • Saturn is amazing, but honestly, get it modded for CD-R's; most of the notable games are stupid-expensive and at least you can test them out & find out which ones are worth pursuing for you. the Working Designs collection & some others have cost me a small fortune.
