Need a little ebay advise on a sale
Sorry to post this question, but hopefully if someone can provide some guidance then it can help others a well.
I sold a SMS console (just the console) on ebay that was fully tested and functional. A few days later I received a message from the buyer asking for a full refund as the system is not functioning properly. They said it was rolling the picture.
I did fully test this system and it worked just fine for me. I don't necessarily think they are being dishonest, but i am just not sure.
What i want to do is ask them to send the unit back and once i receive the unit back i would refund them both what they paid plus shipping (i would not refund until i received the unit back so that i could check the serial # on the system to make sure they sent the correct one back). If i refunded the money up front then there is really no incentive for them to send it back to me.
My question is, if they did not agree to my proposal and opened a dispute would I lose and be forced to pay back the money and they keep the console?
I have been on both sides of this sort of issue and i want to be fair with them, but I have the feeling that i may just have to call this a total loss as I am not sure if this is a winable dispute for me even if they refuse to send the console back to me. Any thoughts? Many thanks.
Edit - also, looks like they changed thier ebay name recently, but i had to do a lot of digging to figure that out. Did they do away with the little icon that showed that someone changed thier ebay name?

If they open a dispute and say it is not as described, can I offer to send a refund after the item is sent back to me at their expense, or will they make me pay the refund before the item is sent back (or is all of that decided during the dispute resolution process?)
Resolution ALWAYS takes a minimum of 2 weeks, and usually 1 month or more.
The reason for this is they're floating your money, using it, and are essentially that much more rich for the entire time they're holding all of that money from both customers.
The only other alternative is to just give a straight-up refund, or hope they never file...either way you're out the money, but at least Paypal doesn't tie it up.
