  • I think this qualifies as odd, in the last year I found a Blaster Master cart in the wild that has a double label. Both labels are Blaster Master labels one over the other. ive never seen this before with a NES game so im not sure how often this happened when the games were produced.

  • nice find!!!

theres one other NES game which i have heard of being double labeled

    Roller Games

    two Genesis

    Pac-Man 2

Strider II (labeled with the PAL label under US one )

    and one Gameboy one

    Race Drivin

this type of error does not turn up too often
  • I don't want to be picky or anything... but my name was incorrectly spelled in the list. The "q" was accidentally replaced with a "g." I'm not RomarGable, but Romarqable.

PS: The listing was for the SMB 3 Challenge set sideways tape.
  • List updated. Robert, don't worry about being picky. As variant hunters, we have to be, right?
  • I bought GamaRays 3 screw DK Jr..Cib a while back

Still have the cart as well
  • Got a few to add here, recently came across not 1 but 2 of the factory mismatch snake's revenge. Got them on the same night last week off ebay- one at auction and then a buy it now about an hour or 2 later. Anyway, oddly enough they both came out of Nevada. Not sure if it was just a coincidence but perhaps that was where the batch of *uckups were sent to. One came in the original box as you can see from the pictures. The metal gear was purchased from another member on NA. I have had the dk jr non hang tab with the 3 screw cart for a while now just forgot to add it here-but i got that in a lot off ebay as well. The seller never showed the game carts or the back of the boxes, so this was a total surprise when i opened the package. The jaws i hawked in a lot with some of what i refer to as "throw away" games. Here are the pictures, add me when you get a chance Andy. I wanted to say thanks for keeping a list like this going, I do appreciate it.

  • Got you added, Gangsta. You're welcome, by the way. I enjoy keeping track of this stuff. Sometimes it's a little jealousy-inducing, but hey, it's all in good fun.
  • A lot of that was just the past few weeks. I'd be willing to trade one of those snake revenge for another mismatch that I don't have. Don't want to sell but would rather trade and it go to someone on here so if interested can send a PM.

Your really doing some good work here Andy, I felt for a while that somebody should keep track of these kind of things, because when collecting is all over with, how many of these are really out there?

uhm wow. i wonder if anyone knows what one of these is actually showing. i seriously have to reconsider my opinion on these as being not a factory error. with nothingface's permission can i add all the "factory mismatches" to my error list?

taking a close look at it again it not a printing error its a miscut label notice the black stripe at the bottom the offset of the gold in the seal of quality should be as far as the strip is thick

It's both. Look at the game code and the seal. They are overlapping.

  • That's actually just a simple offsetting error.

The CMYK plates were misaligned by a few millimeters while the custom gold ink was aligned perfectly. Hence why the Oval white background is perfectly in place while the border and text is wrong.

i thought the labels were printed in sheets and not individually then later cut then the gold ink going on last and the fact the graphics appear elevated equally and no other color distortion suggests not a silk screen misallignment, but a cutting error.
also meaning theres others of this one out there
  • From 5+yrs of commercial printing experience, I would say that it looks like that gold ink went on after the 4/c process inks and was probably off a hair when the plate was hung for the gold overlay.
  • that's what I was trying to say! Only a little over a year of experience for me though...
  • I used to run Komori and Heidelberg 7/C industrial printing presses, so take it from an expert in the field-that is exactly what happened here. If anyone else has printing questions, feel free to send them my way and I will answer them to the best of my ability.
  • The original post for this copy can be found HERE

The link to the auction I won this at can be found HERE
