Questions from a newbie

  1. Why do nes, gameboy, and snes need a battery to save?
  2. My cousin said that the famicom and nes are two different systems. I always thought that they are were made different for America but in a way the same. Plus the famicom got more stuff. Who's right?
  3. Dose the Styrofoam in the nes boxes make it any more valuable?

  • At the time, without magnetic media, economically storing data required a constant supply of very low power.

Famicom and NES have similar but separate libraries. Check out the wikipedia pages to see more than you ever wanted to know about the Famicom. Fami had a much larger library, hundreds more games.
They both use the same core processor though, and famicom games can be played on the NES with a converter (and vice versa) so they're essentially the same guts.

Replacement styro is really pretty indistinguishable from vintage styro, with the only exception being some smaller (thinner) blue styro inserts for games that included oversize 5x7 manuals. So no, not really, it's just a "sweetener."
