Picked up seven games I didn't have plus a case with nice condition labels for a decent price at a local store. I basically took 1/3rd of the Gameboy games that were there.
I gave all seven games a good 20+ minutes of rainy-afternoon gameplay and enjoyed everything I got. I'd never played any of them before, I really used to want DK Land as a kid when it first came out. They impress me, they are like good NES pirates, but the Super Game Boy use is terrible. They are certainly ambitious for Gameboy games though. When I first was sifting through the carts all three of those DK games were facing label away from me and I thought they were all going to be Pokemon Yellow, I was very pleased to see the entire trilogy. I had no idea what good use Space Invaders makes of Super Game Boy, lots of cool features, basically an entire SNES game inside that little cart. I like how they went out of the way to give you a cellophane option and line them up imperfectly, or just a full color version, or keep it b&w. I'd never played any version of Tetris Attack before but I always love puzzle games, and was impressed with all of the modes and some really nice animations and sound effects. I always like late release Game Boy games though, they got so much out of the system. Bonk's Adventure is great, a lot like Adventure Island but with climbing. Pac-Man is a nice portable version and is definitely a game that came out before the Super Game Boy, but that had a color pallette designed specifically for it (like Metroid II did) and it is nice to have.
The store also has a copy of CastleVania Legends for $30. I know it is a good price for that game, and it is super rare, but I have a hard time getting myself to spend that much on a GameBoy cart. It's been there for months too. Maybe if my car passes inspection without too much hassle you'll be seeing me picking that up
Always awesome to get a stack of solid games. I've been finding the old Gameboy actually had quite a few good games. Donkey Kong (for the Gameboy) may be one of the greatest games of all time. I was shocked to find out Final Fantasy Adventure was far superior to Secret of Mana despite preceding it on a technologically inferior system.
I find games that are a fair price tend to disappear very fast where I am but it helps me focus on the actual worth of a game. I wouldn't grab Castlevania unless you know its a good game or want to play it.
I picked up NBA Hoopz locally today for $1.00 in perfect complete condition. Most people probably aren't aware but this is a very rare game and worth far more than $1.
I'd been wanting to pick this up for a while as a huge fan of the original (NBA Showtime) but this game is shockingly lacking in the music/presentation aspect,
unlike the first. I couldn't believe at the end of quarters that it didn't even have music whatsoever.
It does feature some nice additions like a 3rd teammate, posting up, mini-games, updated 2001 rosters.
This was the final "true" NBA Jam game (Midway) and I was pretty pumped to pick it up as I haven't seen a good Dreamcast pickup in a while.
