You'd still be asking that even after you played it.

Agreed. I lost a patch of hair trying to play it!

  • Let's just focus on Study Hall.
  • This game does look interesting. But it's wayyy too short. I know programming on the NES is hard, but in my opinion there's no reason you couldn't have added tons more levels. Sivak's game is even more complicated and has even more levels. So yeah...cool game but too short for me.
  • That's just a personal preference. I wanted to make a game along the lines of Marble Madness, where you can sit down and finish it in one comfortable sitting.

I'm glad you enjoy Battle Kid. It's definitely there whenever you want a couple games that take a month to finish.

Way to party poop. I haven't gotten past Wednessday yet so I think the game is fine as is. If it's too easy there's challenging mode and achievements. lots of content either way. Why does a great game need to have 50+ levels and spoon feed you cutscenes and take hours if not days to beat in order to be great? Most great arcade games (like DK) only had four screens or less. Pacman has one.

  • Don't worry, the sequel will be at least twice as big

Is that what you told her last night?

    ZING!

You might want to pull up your pants.  Your ass is showing.

There is a pretty storied history of relatively short, highly replayable games on the NES.

    Marble Madness was already mentioned.

the Donkey Kong games are all only 3 or 4 levels long, depending on the console.

Life Force, in this weeks high score contest, is only 6 levels long.

For an NES game, Study Hall is at least par on length, and better than average on replayability to "master" the game and the challenge levels.
  • My experience is most NES games or way too easy or way too hard, compared to newer games. I like it that way the Study Hall demo plays so, I'd probably love it. I'm a big NES homebrew enthusiast and welcome any homebrews. I knew Sneak and peak was a 2600 game, that is why I really want the NES version, badly. I used to have it on 2600 and it was the only game that worked on the old 2600 I had back then. It didn't work long though. Thankfully, now I am more experienced restoring systems, now if only Retrozone could expand more, but I am happy with with their developments. I just hate it that I didn't get on board and get certain games while they were available and really want sneek and peak. Sorry, if this isn't the right place for that topic. Look forward to study hall tremendously. BTW, Congrats you did it again KHAAAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!!!!!

     Contra.

  • Got mine in the mail today!
  • I do not normally like arcade styled games, but Study Hall is perfect as is. I can literally play it for hours and not even notice the passage of time. The length is just enough to balance difficulty and mastery; and even if you can finish all of the levels with ease, the saved high scores allow for great replayability. Arcade games are not generally about length, but depth. Stay tuned for the documentary, The King of the Hall: A Fistful of Pencils (and Erasers)

Lucky for us, if they'ed gotten the url right, it would already be sold out again.

Also, did anyone else notice the retrousb "seal" on the box? How is that possible? I had to order the box + manual separate from Uncle Tusk and assemble myself. Also, the $33 is for the game cart only but oh wells. Anything to raise homebrew awareness is a good thing, except in the case of AtariAge Princess Rescue, because "Big N" was being a jerk.
  • Just ordered mine today... Well, yesterday for you non-late night custodial beer drinking sorts...
  • I was wondering about the box and seal as well. Things that make you go hmmmmmm.
  • I asked him to put the logo on the box. It's as simple as that.

Oh, cool! I didn't know you were involved in the review. That makes sense now. Congrats again.
  • Just a shoutout to Khan, I played again the other night and made it to 2pm Thursday, my farthest yet! I only beat my old high score by 1000 or so (25k points), but I didn't access as many bonus stages this go around. Not sure how I did it, but by Thursday morning I donned cute blonde locks of hair and a sundress. Wish I'd snapped a screenshot but I didn't have my cell handy. I also earned the "cross dresser" avhievement, LOL! Not sure how I did it, but awesome...

    Maybe you were tardy?
  • Ahh, waiting on women. The neverending problem.

LOL, it always says "don't be tardy." Maybe I should wait a few minutes before starting the next period and see if anything happens. I always try to rotate my shoe colors every stage but I'm not sure if that triggered it or not.

Funny story, I thought this was the Easter Egg when it happened. Kevin put me in my place pretty quick when I pm'd him that I thought I found it.

  • I wonder if the Easter Egg involves something like connecting a zapper or second controller in player 2 port and doing something random with it. People hunting for the Easter Egg with just player 1 plugged in would be SOL in that case. Gotta think outside the box...
  • You definitely don't need anything other than the controller in the P1 position.

edit: Although, when you put a controller in the P2 spot and hit a certain button, magic happens!
