Finally, Ebay reinstates my account!

My eBay account has been suspended on account of me selling repro games. I had to write them a letter stating why I think I should be reinstated, send them an email regarding the subject, send them a copy of my ID, send them a utility bill and fill out an application for reinstatement. Not only that, but I had to do it twice because they couldn't read some of the fax.

Even though I had to go through all of this, they finally let me back in image Now I can be charged ridiculous fees and hear worthless complaints all again. Gotta love evil bay.

  • Ebay can eat my ass when it comes to being a seller. Congrats on getting back in.
  • That's the way I feel too. The only problem though, is with eBay, I've sold about 50 of my guides. Without eBay, I've sold about 5 :-\. Definitely easier to reach people through it. But the fees suck.
  • The eBay banhammer strikes again

Lately if you screw up in any small way, they're VERY quick to escalate to suspensions and bannings. They just want out with the old crew, and in with the new.

    We need something new, now.

  • Yikes, banned for selling repo games? Your punishment sounded like something from elementary school. You had to write a personal note on why you sould be reinstated? I'm suprised you didn't have to write "I will not sell repo's on ebay" 100 times using a #2 pencil.
  • I don't hate eBay nearly as much as some people on here, but yeah the fees suck. However, unless I'm selling something "rare" or semi-valuable, I always get more money on eBay instead of on NA.

For example, I posted pictures of a Complete in Box SNES Zelda w/ map and manual and protective sleeve. Box was about 6-7 out of 10 with some moderate wear. I didn't post a price, but I said all fair offers considered and no one showed interest. Bam sells on ebay for $32.99 + $3.95 shipping.

Even with fees I'm still clearing $30 for a game I would have sold to a member on here for $20 or $25 shipped. EBay is still a money maker if you know how to make flashy listings and use lots of good keywords to attract attention...

lol, yeah that was it pretty much.
  • Well jonebone, I think most people here are expecting to get stuff a little cheaper then Ebay. I know I do image . If people here charged the same amount as Ebay, then why spend the time searching here. Ebay is a huge resource and you can find tons of super rare stuff there. The incentive to sell here, is that there are no fees (another reason to sell cheaper then Ebay), and you can have stuff sold instantly. YOu can keep changing your prices, and your listing freely. YOu can do trades. I think the best part for me though, as a buyer and seller.. YOu get to know the people here.. you trust them more then the Ebay crowd.. It feels good to help someone you know complete something they needed, or give them a big break on a price on something they really wanted, but werent sure they could afford on Ebay.

Most of the stuff I sell here, I put out at Ebay prices. If no one bites, I drop the prices and try to spread the gaming goodness. If people want something but cant afford it I try to work out some kind of other deal with them. If no one wants it still, then im happy to post it on ebay and get a nice profit.

Also I recomend posting prices, and stating youll consider all offers. If you just do the latter, alot of people will pass it up, because their too shy to throw out an offer. I know this has happened to me on both sides before.. Last time I was selling something, the buyer asked me what I wanted for the item. I said im not sure throw me an offer. He said he didnt know give him a ball park figure.. this went back and forth for a few PMs. I was scarred to throw out an offer too high and have him walk away, he was scared he might low ball me.

Exactly, that proves Dan's point from above you.  You haven't been selling on ebay that long and are "new" to it compared to a lot of us.  We remember how it used to be when ebay was actually good and actually was a community.  They want the old blood gone and have new people who think they new way of things is ok.  eBay as a whole is down like 10%, their stock is tanking, and many of their big sellers are jumping ship to other sources for making income.

The main reason I enjoy this site so much is not the selling or the buying, but the trading. That's where this site excels IMO, as two people are much more likely to cut a better deal when they are offloading their duplicates to someone who needs them. A new member here recently traded with me and both of us walked away very happy and look forward to more trades in the future.

I don't really have any success selling here, and eBay continues to make me more money so I'll take most of my business there. The only exception to this rule is when someone posts a WTB thread. In that case I'd much rather hook-up a member here and get a little bit less money knowing I can sell off a bunch of stuff at once and not have to take pictures of it / list it / describe it fully. Most members are okay with a verbal description of "Labels look great, no peeling, no magic marker names" and bam the deal is closed.

Oh I'm fully aware of this, I never said Dan was wrong. I think eBay has that attitude as well "We're too big and too well known so if you choose to leave us then it is your loss." While it is sad that eBay is trying to force out the old guys, that does nothing but help me. If I have less sellers to compete with then I can raise my prices and make more money...

PS - I think eBay's stock will continue to tank but there's no way in hell they will ever go out of business. They'd layoff workers and restructure their fees before they get anywhere close to being bankrupt. Plus when you consider the current status of the economy, I think a lot of people will turn to eBay to sell off "useless" crap when they need money to pay their bills. If that happens, then your points will be proven as eBay will now be making most of their money from new users....
  • eBay is for blowhards. There are plenty of other avenues that are cheaper and where you don't need to succomb to stupid buyers.
