What a crazy day!
Hey guys! It's only been a week since I last posted here, but today seems to be well worth posting about. I've been stuck at my parents a lot since my whole car debacle(I posted about it on NA previously.) I decided since I've been stuck here I'd get a ride from a friend who lives close by to go hunting at a flea market we both like to go to. After getting up extra early due to daylight savings we went outside to his car, but I noticed something odd about my dad's car... his stuff from his car was lying scattered in the street around it! Someone had gotten into his car, and sadly I had left some of my gaming pickups the other day in it. Funny thing is I never leave stuff in cars for this reason, but I've never been robbed until now! They got away with a Sega Model 1 complete in the blockbuster rental case, a gamecube basic setup, and a half box of new Culsam's pin connectors. They also took some of my dads car change and somce microphones he had in there.
The flea market was ok, but nothing too amazing. On my way home though I check craigslist out on my phone and make a couple calls, and after a couple that go no where I get one really crazy one. A lady's grandmother used to work for Atari when they were new. She apparently even worked on the first big Atari Pong arcade machine. She gave away a ton of sealed games to her family members before she passed away, but they still had some of her stuff. After meeting up they offer me this cherry Atari 7800 unit which I own, but not CIB(and I love me some CIB stuff!)

They also had a lot of games(all commons), but I found this gem in the lot:

After going home and trying it all out it all works great! To top it all off I caught a cold, but at least I have something here to play! ;D

Also to those wondering the gaming stuff that was stolen was stored in the trunk of the car, and could not be seen.
I'm going to see if I can contant them again and see if they might have anything more!
For that January '86 launch, Jack used the backstock of already produced consoles from '84 which were slightly modified for this launch. That modification being the stickers you see on your box. They were strategically placed to cover the information about the keyboard expansion and other related info, since that part of the system had been cancelled in the interim. Your console would have been released sometime between January and May '86, which is when that repurposed '84 stock was released and quickly sold out before the normal version was released that September.
Here's a photo of the normal '84 release (which is rare considering the limited release):
And here's the normal 7800 release:
Further differences between the '84 release/'86 re-release and the commonly release 7800 shown above is the later removal of the expansion port on the side, which you should see on yours.
As far as Jan Boehm, she's very well known in Atari circles and has appeared at Classic Gaming Expo as a speaker in the past. What you have is not a proto, but rather a lab loaner cart as labled. Those were the final versions of the game, so there shouldn't be any difference between it and the normal Yars' Revenge. They were created for promo purposes to send out to newspapers, magazines, etc. for early review before the game hit store shelves.
