  • Also don't own Earthbound. Why is an Earthbound air freshener worth more than Earthbound?
  • Without Googling, I think you had to mail away one of the scratch and sniff stickers that came with the game (correct me if I'm wrong). Most likely, not many people did because mail-away stuff is pretty uncommon in general nowadays so it must be pretty rare. That, coupled with Earthbound's large cult following is probably why the seller wants so much for it. Large demand, very low supply = high price.

    I personally don't think it should be selling for nearly that much but we'll see how much it ends up going for.
  • I think this is called wishful thinking on the seller's part.
  • I had one of those Air Fresheners, as I bought Earthbound on release day as a kid (Nintendo Power hyped the hell outta that game). Applejack has it right pretty much. In the back of the guide there were some scratch and sniff cards of various characters from the game and one mystery scent. You were supposed to guess what the smell of the mystery card was, write your answer on the back and mail it in. If you guessed right you'd win a prize. After what seemed like forever, you would receive the air freshener, wheither you guessed right or wrong (I was wrong). I don't remember what I guessed but the correct answer was pizza. It did not smell like pizza. Yep, that's my story.
  • I bought my copy a few months after release (with my own money! Most expensive purchase I ever had for years.) And I have vague memories of the card thing...but I know I never tried for it. I've lost most of the cards, too. xD;

    I like the Mother figures I bought in Japan far more than an air freshener, honestly. Part of me wishes I hadn't sold them, too...but well, being broke has its problems.
